The posting

Job Description: Payment Reconciliation Specialist

Function: Payments / Finance Operations

Role Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented Payment Reconciliation Specialist to own the daily, weekly and

monthly reconciliation of repayment transactions across payment gateways, banking channels and

internal ledgers. The role focuses on settlement verification and exception resolution, so that every

rupee collected is accurately tracked, settled and reported.

The role will also support the integration of a new lending partner and the management of seven newly

added Merchant IDs (MIDs), with a focus on accurate transaction tracking, settlement reporting and

early identification of payment leakages or discrepancies. The specialist will work closely with payment

gateway partners, banks, Finance, Operations, Engineering and Product teams.

Key Responsibilities

Payment gateway and settlement reconciliation

• Perform daily, weekly and monthly reconciliations of repayment transaction flows across

payment gateways, banking channels and internal ledgers.

• Match gateway transaction reports to internal payment records and settlement credits, and

confirm that amounts, statuses and dates agree.

• Verify settlements against the expected settlement cycles (T+1, T+2) and flag delays or

shortfalls.

• Reconcile payment gateway charges, GST and other fee deductions against the agreed rates.

Multi-MID and lending partner operations

• Track transactions and verify settlements for the new lending partner and the seven newly

added MIDs.

• Maintain clear records and reporting for each MID, including collections, settlements, fees and

refunds.

• Support the onboarding of new MIDs by validating test transactions and the first settlement

cycles.

Exception identification and resolution

• Investigate missing settlements, pending transactions, refund variances and gateway fee

discrepancies.

• Identify mismatches in status, amount and timing between gateway reports and internal

records, and find the root cause.

• Coordinate with payment gateway partners to resolve unpaid or unsettled transactions, and

track each exception to closure.

• Highlight payment leakages and escalate recurring issues to the hiring manager and Finance

stakeholders.

Financial reporting and MIS

• Prepare daily payment gateway reconciliation dashboards and management information system

(MIS) reports.

• Produce settlement-breakdown summaries by gateway, MID and payment mode for Finance

and Operations stakeholders.

• Maintain an ageing view of open exceptions and unreconciled items.

Process improvement and automation

• Collaborate with Engineering and Product teams to automate reconciliation scripts and

streamline data-feed integration for new MIDs.

• Document reconciliation procedures, matching rules and checklists so the process is repeatable

and auditable.

• Recommend controls that reduce manual effort and prevent recurring discrepancies.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Experience: 1–2 years of hands-on experience in payment gateway, repayment or settlement

reconciliation, preferably in FinTech, e-commerce or payment gateways.

• Technical skills: Advanced proficiency in SQL and Excel, including VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables and

complex formulas. Experience with automated reconciliation tools is an advantage.

• Reconciliation and domain knowledge: Understanding of payment gateway settlement cycles

(T+1, T+2), payment gateway charges and fee deductions, loan repayment workflows and multi-

MID accounting structures.

• Payment knowledge: Familiarity with payment modes such as UPI, cards, net banking, wallets

and e-mandates, and with payment refund processes.

• Analytical skills: Strong analytical thinking, investigation and documentation skills, with close

attention to detail.

• Communication: Clear written and verbal communication for working with partners and internal

stakeholders.

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Commerce, Business Administration, Risk Management

or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience reconciling loan repayments, collections or lending-partner flows.

• Experience with automated reconciliation tools or scripting (for example Python) to speed up

matching.

• Exposure to onboarding new merchant IDs or payment partners.

• Basic understanding of chargebacks and disputes and how they affect settlements.

Key Competencies

• Accuracy and strong attention to detail when working with large volumes of transaction data.

• Structured problem solving, with the ability to trace a discrepancy back to its source.

• Ownership and follow-through on open exceptions until they are fully resolved.

• Clear reporting and the ability to explain findings simply to Finance and Operations teams.

• Works well across Finance, Operations, Engineering, Product and external partners.

Key Focus Areas

• Reliable reconciliation of repayment transactions and settlements across payment gateways,

banking channels and internal ledgers.

• Early identification and resolution of settlement gaps, payment leakages and fee discrepancies.

• Clear, consistent reporting for the new lending partner and the seven new MIDs.

• Steady reduction of manual reconciliation effort through automation.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
