Through cutting-edge technology, a vast logistics network, and a commitment to sustainability, we serve a broad customer base, from Fortune 500 corporations to local, family-owned businesses.

Are you an experienced Maintenance Engineer looking to take the next step in your career? We're looking for a Lead Maintenance Engineer to provide technical leadership within our engineering team at Heywood, supporting the safe and efficient operation of site equipment while helping drive continuous improvement across the facility.

At Lineage, we're committed to developing our people and creating opportunities for growth. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys a hands-on engineering position combined with leadership responsibilities and wants to make a meaningful impact within a global organisation.

Shift Available: Monday to Friday, 7:00am - 3:00pm

Salary: Competitive

About the Role

As a Lead Maintenance Engineer, you'll play a key role in ensuring the reliability, safety, and performance of our site equipment and infrastructure.

You'll work closely with the Maintenance Manager and engineering team, providing technical guidance, coordinating engineering activities, and supporting both reactive and preventative maintenance programmes. This is a hands-on role where you'll lead by example while helping develop engineering standards and best practices across the site.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Supporting the day-to-day coordination of maintenance activities across the site.
  • Providing technical guidance and mentoring to Maintenance Engineers and apprentices.
  • Carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) activities to maximise equipment reliability and minimise downtime.
  • Responding to equipment breakdowns and leading fault-finding activities to identify and resolve issues safely and efficiently.
  • Supporting the maintenance of conveyors, refrigeration systems, cranes, mobile racking systems, and site utilities.
  • Assisting with root cause analysis investigations and implementing corrective actions.
  • Monitoring engineering performance and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Ensuring all maintenance work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with site procedures.
  • Supporting contractor management and overseeing engineering work carried out by third parties.
  • Maintaining accurate maintenance records and ensuring work orders are completed within agreed timescales.
  • Working closely with Operations teams to minimise disruption and maintain operational performance.
  • Promoting a strong health and safety culture across the engineering function.

You'll spend some time working within our temperature-controlled environment at approximately -18°C, but we'll provide all the specialist PPE needed to keep you comfortable and safe.

There will also be occasions where you'll work at height using ladders and access equipment.

Who We're Looking For

We're looking for an experienced engineer with strong technical knowledge, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to support and develop others within a high-performing maintenance team.

Essential

  • A recognised Electrical Engineering qualification (NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, ONC/HNC, or equivalent).
  • Previous experience in a maintenance engineering role within warehousing, logistics, manufacturing, FMCG, food production, or a similar operational environment.
  • Strong electrical fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
  • Experience carrying out both preventative and reactive maintenance activities.
  • Ability to prioritise workloads and coordinate engineering activities effectively.
  • Good understanding of health and safety requirements within an operational environment.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
  • Proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.

Desirable (But Not Essential)

  • Previous experience in a Lead Engineer, Senior Engineer, or Engineering Supervisor role.
  • Mechanical maintenance knowledge and experience.
  • Experience working within a temperature-controlled or cold storage environment.
  • Experience with refrigeration systems, conveyors, cranes, automated systems, or mobile racking.
  • Knowledge of CMMS or maintenance management systems.
  • Experience supporting apprentices or mentoring junior engineers.
  • IOSH Working Safely, IOSH Managing Safely, or equivalent health and safety qualification.

What's in it for me?

  • The opportunity to earn an additional day of annual leave each year, up to the maximum of one extra week for length of service.
  • Free onsite car park
  • Social environment with a team who like to support each other to achieve goals, with recognition schemes and shared spaces to enjoy lunch and rest breaks together
  • Support your emotional well-being with access to a 24/7 employee assistance phone line offering confidential free counselling and advice
  • Preferential rates for loans and savings offered through exclusive access to a credit union

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
