Job Description

This role exists to strengthen and evolve ooba’s quality engineering capability by embedding quality into delivery and improving confidence in system releases.

The Senior Quality Engineer will take ownership of how testing is approached across teams — shifting from manual, end-stage testing toward practical, automation-led, and risk-based quality practices. The role requires a balance of hands-on technical capability, sound judgement, and the ability to influence how teams build and release software.

Responsibilities

Quality Engineering & Test Design

• Design and implement effective testing approaches across UI, API, and data layers

• Establish and apply a structured test strategy aligned to system risk and business impact

• Ensure testing focuses on critical user journeys rather than volume

• Contribute directly to test design and implementation where required

Automation & Tooling

• Build and maintain automated test suites (UI and API)

• Improve reliability, speed, and maintainability of test automation

• Reduce reliance on manual regression through practical automation

• Identify and eliminate flaky or redundant tests

System Quality & Risk Management

• Identify quality risks across both legacy and newer systems

• Ensure appropriate test coverage for high-risk areas

• Support defect analysis and root cause identification

• Improve confidence in releases through structured validation approaches

Delivery Integration & DevOps Alignment

• Integrate testing into CI/CD pipelines for faster feedback

• Define practical test execution approaches (e.g. smoke vs regression)

• Work closely with engineering and DevOps teams during releases

• Support efficient and stable deployment processes

Standards & Continuous Improvement

• Contribute to establishing testing standards and best practices

• Promote consistency in how quality is approached across teams

• Improve testing processes based on real delivery experience

• Support a shift toward shared ownership of quality within delivery teams

Shift-Left & Capability Uplift

• Partner with developers so tests are created alongside code

• Review test quality in pull requests

• Share testing patterns, tooling knowledge, and lessons learned

• Reduce key-person dependency through documentation and knowledge sharing

AI Assisted Testing

• Apply AI assisted tooling for test generation, test data creation, defect triage, and risk based prioritisation

• Evaluate emerging AI testing tools

• Demonstrate measurable productivity gains from AI-assisted approaches

Qualifications

What You’ll Be Working With

• Web and backend platforms across ooba’s core systems

• API-driven integration layers

• Test automation frameworks (Playwright or similar)

• CI/CD pipelines and release processes

• Zoho CRM ecosystem (integration touchpoints)

• Microsoft ecosystem (Teams, Azure-aligned services)

• On-premise systems with an evolving cloud direction

• Data platforms and reporting layers where validation is required
