About the Team

OpenAI’s mission is to ensure that artificial general intelligence benefits all of humanity. Our product teams work across research, engineering, product, data, and design to bring OpenAI’s technology to people and businesses around the world.

Design plays a critical role in making powerful AI intuitive, useful, and trustworthy. We hold a high bar for quality and build experiences that earn users’ confidence, while moving quickly and learning from real-world feedback. We favor early validation and continuous refinement over waiting until every detail is perfect.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Product Designer to shape how startups, small businesses, and growing teams discover, adopt, and unlock lasting value from ChatGPT. You’ll own growth experiences across the customer journey, turning the potential of AI into meaningful, everyday impact for people across the world.

This is a highly hands-on role for a designer who pairs exceptional craft with strong product judgment and an experimental mindset. You’ll tackle some of our most interesting growth challenges, using creativity, product intuition, and experimentation to discover new opportunities. We’re looking for someone who loves treating metrics as puzzles to solve, finding unexpected solutions, and learning quickly through iteration.

Above all, you bring exceptional design craft and believe that driving measurable impact and building beautiful, intuitive experiences should go hand in hand.

This role is based in our San Francisco HQ. We offer relocation assistance to new employees.

In this role, you will:

- Own end-to-end design for growth experiences across ChatGPT

- Design and improve experiences across user lifecycle stages like discovery, onboarding, activation, engagement, collaboration, conversion, and retention.

- Turn ambiguous opportunities into clear hypotheses, compelling prototypes, and polished product experiences.

- Set a high bar for interaction design, visual craft, systems thinking, content, and end-to-end coherence.

- Partner closely with product, engineering, data science, research, and go-to-market teams to shape both strategy and execution.

- Use quantitative data, experimentation, research, and qualitative insights to identify opportunities and evaluate outcomes.

- Translate complex and rapidly evolving AI capabilities into approachable experiences for people with a wide range of technical expertise.

- Move fluidly between longer-term product vision and fast, iterative execution.

- Contribute reusable patterns and insights that strengthen growth experiences across ChatGPT.

You might thrive in this role if you:

- Have a portfolio demonstrating exceptional product thinking, interaction design, and visual craft across complex, shipped products.

- Have led substantial product initiatives from early exploration through launch and iteration.

- Possess strong product judgment and can connect user needs, business goals, technical possibilities, and measurable outcomes.

- Are comfortable working with data and experiments while balancing quantitative signals with research, intuition, and design judgment.

- Can move quickly without compromising clarity, coherence, trust, or craft.

- Are fluent in using AI to explore, prototype, communicate, and extend what you can build.

- Can turn ambiguous, fast-moving problems into a clear point of view and actionable product direction.

- Communicate through strong narratives and prototypes that align cross-functional teams.

- Are excited to rethink established growth patterns and invent interactions that feel native to AI.

- Care deeply about building products that are useful, trustworthy, and worthy of users’ time.

Direct experience in growth design or developer products is helpful but not required. We’re most interested in designers with strong product judgment, exceptional craft, and evidence that their work meaningfully changed user behavior or business outcomes.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
