About OPEN Data Jobs
OPEN Data Jobs (ODJ) is built to craft data careers. We connect high-potential data, AI, and software professionals with meaningful work on the cutting edge of the federal sector, and our aim reaches beyond any single opening: to help you understand your strengths, find the right role, and grow throughout your career.
ODJ is organized around Roles and Openings. A Role is a durable career type, such as Data Engineer or AI Engineer: it describes the work, the skills that count, and where the path can lead. An Opening is a specific position hiring right now, with a level, a location, and an application. Roles help you see where you fit; from there, there is more than one way to move.
Today, you can apply to any Opening that fits you through our secure application system. You can also register for a Role to express interest in that broader category of work. A Role registration is not an application to every future Opening.
The work
Project Managers own the delivery of a defined body of work. They take a project from charter to closeout, set the plan, direct the team, and keep scope, schedule, cost, quality, and risk in balance, so the project delivers what it promised when it promised it.
The work spans software, data, cloud, and systems projects, run with Agile, waterfall, or hybrid methods. Project Managers build the work breakdown and the schedule, run the delivery cadence, track milestones and deliverables, manage risks, issues, and changes, and report status a sponsor can act on. On federal engagements they also keep contract deliverables, acceptance criteria, and client reviews on track, and they coordinate the handover to the people who will operate and support what was delivered.
A Project Manager is the single point of accountability for a project, not its scheduler. They work between the client, the delivery team, and program leadership, make the tradeoffs a project needs, and escalate the ones it cannot make alone. Where a Data Program Manager joins several projects into one program, a Project Manager makes one project succeed.
What you'll build
- Project charters, plans, and work breakdown structures that turn a goal into scoped, sequenced, estimable work.
- Integrated schedules, budgets, cost forecasts, and resource plans that the team actually works to.
- Risk, issue, change, and decision logs that keep problems visible and tradeoffs on the record.
- Status reports, sponsor briefings, and client reviews that give decision-makers an accurate picture and a clear ask.
- Deliverable acceptance, lessons learned, and closeout records that bring a project to a controlled close, whether its work is complete or it was ended early.
Who you are
You finish what you start. You turn ambiguity into a plan, you notice when the plan has stopped describing reality, and you change it before the schedule changes it for you.
You lead without needing to be the expert in the room. You ask engineers the question that exposes the risk, you bring a sponsor bad news early and with options, and you keep the team focused when priorities move.
What you bring
- Experience managing technology projects from initiation through delivery, including scope, schedule, budget, and quality.
- A working command of Agile, waterfall, or hybrid delivery, and of the ceremonies, artifacts, and measures each one uses.
- Skill in risk, issue, dependency, and change management, with the judgment to know what to escalate.
- Proficiency with project tools such as Jira, Microsoft Project, or comparable scheduling and tracking software, and with Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
- Clear writing, confident briefing, and steady stakeholder management in regulated or mission-critical environments.

Requirements
What openings may require
Openings may involve application development, data platform modernization, cloud migration, systems integration, analytics delivery, or AI adoption. Some may require a Project Management Institute (PMI) credential, such as Project Management Professional (PMP) or PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP). Others may ask for a Scrum certification, experience with earned value management, or knowledge of federal contracting and a particular mission.
Specific openings will state the expected project scale, leadership level, methodology, tools, certifications, work location, citizenship, work authorization, background, suitability, clearance, and domain knowledge.
Benefits
