About Finergi

Finergi builds payment and technology services for utility payments across Africa. In Zambia, we run a technology platform for the sale and distribution of prepaid electricity tokens through mobile money and other channels, and provide the platform, integration and settlement services behind licensed payment partners and mobile money operators.

Our platform is hosted in-country and connects to the utility, mobile operators and banks. We're building a regulated payment business in Zambia, and we're looking for the people who will make it run.

About the role

This is a hands-on technology leadership role. You'll be the accountable technology executive for our Zambian business — the person the Bank of Zambia, auditors and partners look to on technology — while also running the production platform yourself.

You'll own the roadmap, architecture, security and resilience of the platform, keep it compliant with regulatory and data protection requirements, and get your hands dirty on Kubernetes, pipelines and databases when it matters.

You'll report to the Country Manager, Zambia, with a technical reporting line to the Group CTO, and work closely with our Group technology team, Finance, Legal and Compliance.

What you'll do

■ Own the technology roadmap for Zambia, aligned to Group architecture and standards

■ Act as the accountable technology officer with the Bank of Zambia — own the technology sections of regulatory filings, answer regulator questions and support inspections

■ Own core technology documentation: architecture and data flows, IT governance, information security, and business continuity and disaster recovery

■ Run production on our in-country cloud: Linux, Kubernetes, Docker and Helm, with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure automation

■ Operate and support our data and messaging layer — PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, Elasticsearch and Kafka — and the monitoring around it

■ Lead incident response, root-cause analysis and post-incident reviews, and take part in an agreed on-call rota

■ Run security operations — patching, vulnerability scanning, penetration testing, log monitoring and secrets management — and protect customer data under the Data Protection Act

■ Keep our electricity vending and partner services properly separated across systems, ledgers, access and reporting

■ Own IT risk, change management and access control, working within Group change approval and privileged-access review

■ Manage hosting, telecom and technology vendors, and own the Zambia technology budget with Finance

■ Report monthly on availability, incidents, security, change and risk

What you'll bring

■ 10+ years in technology, including at least 5 years of hands-on DevOps or site reliability engineering on production systems

■ At least 3 years leading infrastructure or engineering teams

■ Strong, current hands-on skills in Linux, Kubernetes, Docker, Helm, Jenkins, Argo CD, Git, Ansible and Bash or Python

■ Production experience with PostgreSQL (Patroni), MongoDB, Redis (Sentinel), Elasticsearch and Kafka, and monitoring with Prometheus, Grafana and Kibana

■ Strong troubleshooting across applications, databases and networks, including VPNs

■ Experience in fintech, payments, mobile money, banking or telecom, and of working with regulators, auditors or security assessors

■ Clear written English — you'll write policies and regulatory documents

■ A degree in computer science, engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience

■ The right to work in Zambia and based in Lusaka

■ Able to meet the Bank of Zambia fit and proper requirements for senior management

Nice to have

■ Azure Stack Hub or other on-premise or hybrid cloud experience

■ ISO 27001, PCI DSS or similar security frameworks

■ Certifications such as CKA, Azure Administrator, CISSP or CISM

■ Knowledge of the Zambian national payment systems framework and Data Protection Act

■ Experience integrating with utilities or mobile money operators

Why join

■ A senior role building a regulated payment business from the ground up

■ Real ownership — you'll shape the platform, not just maintain it

■ Backed by an experienced regional technology team

■ A competitive package

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
