The posting

As an OTC Product Control Specialist at Optiver, you'll combine your knowledge of financial products with strong technical skills to support and develop our growing OTC trading activities. You'll take ownership of key trading controls, build scalable solutions, and work closely with Trading, Risk and Technology to support new products and business initiatives.

You'll join our Amsterdam Middle Office team, which provides independent oversight of positions, valuations and P&L across a broad range of financial products and trading strategies. Unlike traditional Middle Office environments, our team takes a hands-on approach to technology, developing and maintaining many of its own tools, controls and automation solutions.

This is an opportunity to make a direct impact in a fast-paced trading environment, combining OTC expertise with broader exposure to Optiver's trading business. We're looking for someone who enjoys solving complex problems, challenges existing processes, and wants to help shape how we support an expanding business.

What you'll do

In this broad, technical and hands-on role, you will take ownership of key OTC Middle Office processes while developing scalable solutions to support our growing OTC trading activities. Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Manage OTC trade controls and lifecycle events — Ensure accurate trade capture, positions and lifecycle processing across OTC derivatives and structured products, including amendments, expiries, exercises and settlements.
  • Build and automate controls using Python and SQL — Develop and maintain solutions for reconciliations, reporting and data quality, automating manual work and improving operational efficiency.
  • Own OTC portfolio reconciliations — Reconcile positions with counterparties, investigate discrepancies and resolve breaks, using platforms such as TriResolve where applicable.
  • Oversee collateral and collaborating with treasury on margin proces — Monitor margin requirements and collateral movements, investigate disputes and work with counterparties, Trading and Risk to resolve issues.
  • Ensure accurate valuations and P&L — Independently review positions, valuations and P&L, challenge unexpected results and ensure reported exposures reflect the underlying trades.
  • Support new OTC products and business initiatives — Work closely with Trading, Risk and Technology to onboard new products and counterparties, establishing appropriate controls and processes from the start.
  • Contribute to the broader Transatlantic Middle Office team — Support Optiver's core trading activities across a wide range of listed financial prodcts, gaining exposure to the broader business while helping improve and automate processes across the team.

Who you are

We're looking for an ambitious, technically strong and hands-on professional who combines a solid understanding of OTC financial products with the ability and motivation to develop solutions and improve processes.

  • Relevant experience: Ideally, 5+ years of experience within a trading firm, investment bank, market maker, or financial institution.
  • Mindset and approach: You enjoy working in a fast-paced trading environment, taking ownership of problems, and are motivated by making a tangible impact. You're comfortable challenging existing processes, learning new technologies, and collaborating with others to deliver results.
  • OTC product knowledge: A good understanding of OTC derivatives, their valuations, risks and lifecycle events, ideally gained in Trading, Middle Office or Product Control.
  • OTC reconciliation and collateral experience (preferred): Familiarity with TriResolve or similar platforms, position reconciliations and collateral or margin processes.
  • Python, SQL and AI skills: Hands-on experience using Python, SQL and AI tools to analyse data, automate controls, solve problems, and build practical solutions.
  • Technical and analytical mindset: Comfortable working with complex datasets, understanding system flows, and interpreting technical information to identify risks and discrepancies.
  • Ownership and initiative: Proactive in identifying improvements, solving problems, and taking on new responsibilities.
  • Education: A bachelor's or master's degree in a quantitative, technical, financial or related discipline is preferred, or equivalent practical experience. However, we value technical ability, product knowledge, ownership and potential over a specific career path or formal qualification.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
