The posting

At Orbisk, we’re on a mission to create a world where zero food waste isn’t just a dream. It’s a reality. We combine cutting-edge tech, a product that genuinely works, with a sustainability-first mindset to help the hospitality industry make smarter, greener choices. As a proud B-Corp, we’re leading the way in the fight against food waste, and our results speak volumes: over 9 million kg of food waste has been eliminated in 40+ countries (and counting!). 🌍

You’ll fully own our data infrastructure. You won't just be maintaining pipelines; you'll be architecting the foundation of an AI-native product. We process a lot of data from more than a thousand kitchens counting over 150 million pictures to date. You’ll be the one ensuring that data flows seamlessly from the edge, through our AI models, and ultimately into the hands of the operators who rely on it.

Our data ecosystem involves multiple moving parts: edge devices pushing data, AI models requiring continuous, clean training feeds, and customer-facing dashboards that demand near real-time accuracy. Getting all these components communicating flawlessly, scaling the architecture as we grow, and ensuring the whole system is rock-solid is the skill.

The good part is that you don’t have to wonder if your work matters. Every optimization you make to our data architecture translates directly into less food in the bin, lower food costs for our customers, and fewer emissions in the atmosphere.

What you will do

  • Own the pipeline from end to end. You are the ultimate owner of Orbisk’s data infrastructure. If it involves how data is ingested, stored, processed, or orchestrated, it’s your domain.
  • Architect for an AI-native future. You’ll own both product and internal data warehouses, upgrading the infrastructure so the team can securely build AI tools and optimize internal processes. Support building APIs and MCP servers that give customers, partners and internal tools access to our data, with proper access control.
  • Design and scale on GCP. Manage our data storage, processing, and orchestration on Google Cloud Platform, ensuring absolute reliability, security, and scalability as we deploy to thousands more kitchens.
  • Drive our ELT and warehousing strategy. Transform a torrent of raw data into clean, structured insights in BigQuery using Python, SQL, and Dataform.
  • Collaborate across technical boundaries. Work side-by-side with our AI specialists, Software Engineers, and Data Analysts. You provide the structural foundation they need to build better models and actionable customer insights.
  • Automate everything. Use Terraform and containerization to ensure our infrastructure as code is clean, reproducible, and robust.
  • Bring the outside in. Keep Orbisk at the cutting edge of data innovation. We want you to tell us what tools, architectures, and AI integrations we should be using as we scale.

What we expect from you

  • 6+ years of relevant experience in data engineering, computer science, or a similar field. You’ve successfully built robust data foundations from scratch before.
  • You are AI-native. You don’t just build for AI; you build with it. You naturally leverage AI tools to write boilerplate, debug faster, and automate the grunt work so you can focus on complex architecture.
  • Deep, hands-on expertise with Python, SQL, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Strong experience with API management, ELT processes, data warehousing, and specifically BigQuery.
  • You write clean, scalable infrastructure as code using Terraform, and you know your way around containerization (Docker/Kubernetes).
  • Experience with Apache Beam and near real-time streaming architectures.
  • You don’t just want to write code; you want to take ownership. You take responsibility for the architecture you build and how it performs in the wild.
  • You communicate technical trade-offs clearly, take coaching seriously, and aren't afraid to share successes and setbacks as a team.
  • You like being around people, want to spend time with the team in the Amsterdam office, and thrive in a fast-paced scale-up environment.
  • The right to work in the Netherlands.

About Orbisk

Orbisk helps professional kitchens stop wasting food. A camera and a scale use AI to recognise and weigh what gets thrown away, with almost no extra work for the kitchen team. Chefs and operators can see what they’re wasting, when they’re wasting it and why, then do something about it. Food costs come down. So do emissions. Orbisk was founded in Utrecht in 2019. Today, our Orbis are running in thousands of kitchens across 40 countries. We work with hotels, caterers, hospitality groups and cruise lines around the world. We’re backed by Regeneration VC and PeakBridge, and we’re a certified B Corp.

Why join us?

The obvious reason is the work itself. Every kitchen you bring onto Orbisk has the potential to cut real food waste, improve its bottom line and reduce the emissions and water associated with producing food that would otherwise be thrown away. But this is also a massive technical opportunity. We’re building a global business in a huge market, and data is the core engine of our entire product. We’re a scale-up, so things move quickly. You’ll have genuine ownership of your domain, direct access to the people making decisions inside Orbisk, and plenty of room to shape our technology stack as we grow.

And the practical bits:

  • €6.500 - €7.500 month ex. holiday allowance (depending on knowledge and experience).
  • 30 days annual leave.
  • 7% pension contribution.
  • A monthly wellness budget, home office budget and travel allowance.
  • Free lunch at the office.
  • €500 a year for your own learning, plus team training and access to a coach if you want one.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
