The posting

Field Engineer

Orion Marine Construction | Atlantic Division Headquarters Tampa, FL Travel Up to 100% across Florida, Alabama, South Carolina, and the Caribbean Current rotation Approximately 3 weeks on site and 1 week off, depending on project needs Employment Full-time, salaried Reports to Project Manager

Build Marine Projects Where the Work Actually Happens

Orion is hiring an entry-level Field Engineer to help marine construction crews build accurately and safely. You’ll work on site with project engineers, superintendents, barge foremen, and craft crews. You might lay out anchor bolts, check elevations before a concrete pour, or survey completed work to confirm quantities.

Orion builds on, over, and under the water. Our work includes ports, docks, bridges, causeways, mechanical dredging, and other waterfront infrastructure. Our teams are guided by Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Teamwork, built on a foundation of Integrity.

What You’ll Do

  • Read project plans and specifications and establish control lines and elevations so crews can install materials accurately.
  • Survey as-built conditions, collect topographic and cross-section data, and calculate quantities for planning and payment.
  • Coordinate survey work with the assigned engineer and keep survey equipment in working order.
  • Inspect and measure incoming materials to verify quality and quantity. Help coordinate material purchases and deliveries.
  • Assist with drafting, cost estimates, and bid proposals when assigned to the office.
  • Reinforce safe work practices, support safety and environmental compliance, and stop work when unsafe conditions are observed or anticipated.

What You’ll Need

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Science, or a related discipline, or four years of equivalent work experience.
  • Working knowledge of project administration, construction materials, procurement, estimating, scheduling, project tracking software, and cost control.
  • Familiarity with engineering and project standards, safety practices, and environmental compliance.
  • Ability to learn technical procedures quickly and communicate clearly with engineers, supervisors, and craft crews.
  • Ability to drive a passenger vehicle to job sites, travel up to 100%, and work the project rotation.

Preferred experience includes 1–3 years of relevant field engineering or construction experience. Marine construction internships and engineering co-ops are valued. Recent graduates are encouraged to apply.

Jobsite Requirements

You must be able to perform the essential functions of the role with or without reasonable accommodation. Field work includes wearing required PPE, safely accessing docks, barges, boats, and vessels, and responding appropriately in emergencies. The role may involve walking, climbing, standing, stooping, kneeling, squatting, or sitting for extended periods, working at heights or in confined spaces, lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, and working outdoors for extended periods in changing temperatures and weather.

Compensation and Benefits

Orion’s salaried employee benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, an Employee Assistance Program, company-paid life and AD&D insurance, and company-paid short-term and long-term disability coverage.

Additional benefits include a Fidelity 401(k) with Safe Harbor Match, an Employee Stock Purchase Plan, paid time off, nine paid public holidays, volunteer time off, tuition reimbursement, an employee referral program, employee discounts, and wellness programs. Benefits are subject to applicable plan documents and eligibility requirements.

Orion is an Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, including pregnancy, gender identity and sexual orientation, age, national origin, genetic information, disability, veteran status, or any other category protected by law.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
