Otis Korea is seeking a Director, Labor and Employee Relations responsible for developing, implementing, and administering Labor and Employee Relations initiatives and strategies across Korea. This position will report to the VP, Labor & Employee Relations. This role requires strong problem solving and resolution skills, interpersonal skills, and analytical thinking.

Job Responsibilities

  • Partner closely with Human Resources Business Partners (HRBP) to develop and implement labor relations strategies for all union represented populations in Korean legal entities aligned with Operating Unit (OU), Regional and Global priorities.
  • Provide advice and counsel to management on all matters involving labor and employment law and labor contract interpretation and administration.
  • Regularly monitor changing workplace employment laws and regulations and develop/implement strategies to respond to changing laws in alignment with HRBP, OU, Regional and Global priorities.
  • Provide counsel and direction regarding employment practices; ensure compliance with Otis policies, procedures, and programs; interpret and provide guidance to HRBPs, employees and managers.
  • Lead all negotiation sessions on behalf of the SVP & GM, Korea and Sr. Dir. HRBP, Korea for all union represented populations, aligned with OU, Regional and Global priorities and goals.
  • Lead, prepare, coordinate and assist Business Leaders, Finance and Human Resources (HR) with Otis Korea's pre-negotiations collective bargaining strategy development and internal approval process.
  • Lead, prepare, coordinate and assist Business Leaders, Operations, Finance and HR with Otis Korea's pre-negotiations work stoppage contingency planning.
  • Prepare and present Otis Korea's position in grievance meetings, arbitrations, and government agency proceedings.
  • Partner with HRBPs to lead and contribute to key decisions relating to labor and employee relations strategies in Korea.
  • Develop and conduct management training programs and campaigns in support of labor and employee relations strategies.
  • Assist HRBPs in the development of policies and procedures aligned with OU, Regional, and Global priorities.
  • Seek information and remain knowledgeable on industrial developments and new agreement trends in comparable industries.

Experience / Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) from an accredited institution with a master's degree in Labor Relations or a master's degree in Business Administration with a Human Resources concentration.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience working with unions preferably within a global or matrixed organization.
  • Previous experience working with and providing guidance to senior leadership on Labor and Employee Relations matters.
  • Strong negotiator with presentation and facilitation skills.
  • Strong analytical and persuasive written/oral communications skills.
  • Ability to interact professionally with employees at all levels of the organization with strong skills in coaching leaders/managers, team development, and building relationships.
  • Knowledge of Human Resources concepts and related regulatory requirements.
  • Experience in assessing organizational needs and implementing solutions.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Korean.
