Position Summary
The Reliability Engineer – Offshore Operations provides reliability engineering leadership to improve the safety, reliability, availability, and performance of offshore production, utility, and safety systems. This role partners with Operations, Maintenance, Inspection, Automation, Supply Chain, and Engineering to reduce equipment failures and production deferment; optimize maintenance strategies; strengthen asset integrity; and support safe, efficient facility operations.
Primary Responsibilities
Reliability and Asset Performance
Monitor and analyze equipment performance, reliability trends, and maintenance effectiveness across offshore assets.
Develop, maintain, and improve reliability strategies for critical production, utility, and safety systems.
Identify equipment bad actors and recurring failures through data-driven analysis and cross-functional review.
Establish, track, and communicate reliability key performance indicators, including mean time between failures (MTBF), mean time to repair (MTTR), equipment availability, and maintenance compliance.
Facilitate reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) studies and maintenance-optimization initiatives.
Failure Analysis and Technical Support
Lead root cause failure analysis (RCFA) investigations for significant equipment failures, repeat failures, and production losses.
Provide technical support for equipment troubleshooting, major outages, and recovery activities.
Develop corrective actions and reliability-improvement plans; monitor progress through closure.
Support management-of-change activities associated with equipment modifications and reliability improvements.
Maintenance Strategy and Optimization
Review preventive and predictive maintenance programs for technical effectiveness, risk reduction, and cost efficiency.
Optimize maintenance strategies using condition-monitoring data, equipment history, risk assessments, and operating context.
Support planning and execution of shutdowns, turnarounds, and major maintenance campaigns.
Improve SAP maintenance plans, task lists, and equipment master data to support reliable execution and quality data.
Condition Monitoring and Predictive Maintenance
Use and interpret vibration analysis, thermography, oil analysis, ultrasonic testing, and process data to identify degradation trends.
Review condition-monitoring findings and recommend corrective actions based on equipment risk and operating impact.
Support implementation and expansion of predictive-maintenance technologies and associated work processes.
Risk, Asset Integrity, and Compliance
Support asset-integrity programs for mechanical, structural, electrical, instrumentation, and rotating-equipment systems.
Participate in risk assessments and reliability reviews for critical and safety-critical equipment.
Support barrier-management and safety-critical-equipment assurance programs.
Perform work in accordance with company standards, applicable regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
Projects and Continuous Improvement
Provide reliability engineering input during design, commissioning, and startup of new projects and facility modifications.
Participate in factory acceptance tests, equipment inspections, and commissioning activities, as assigned.
Review equipment specifications, maintainability requirements, and maintenance requirements during project development.
Identify opportunities to improve equipment availability, reduce lifecycle cost, and enhance maintenance execution.
Develop business cases for equipment upgrades, replacement projects, and reliability initiatives.
Promote reliability best practices and support maintenance and reliability data-analytics initiatives across offshore facilities.
Scope of Equipment
Typical equipment and systems may include:
Gas turbines, generator packages, diesel engines, and emergency generators.
Compressors, compressor drivers, pumps, and pumping systems.
Firewater systems, production separators, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, and process systems.
Electrical distribution systems, switchgear, motor-control centers, transformers, and uninterruptible power systems.
Control valves, digital valve controllers, instrumentation, automation systems, and safety-instrumented systems.
Crane systems, material-handling equipment, and offshore utility and marine systems.

- Experience applying reliability engineering methodologies, RCFA, and maintenance-optimization practices.
- Working knowledge of rotating and fixed equipment systems.
- Proficiency with SAP Plant Maintenance (PM) or a comparable computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder-engagement skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP) certification.
- Reliability-centered maintenance certification.
- Vibration-analysis certification (Category I–IV).
- Knowledge of applicable API, ISO, ABS, and offshore regulatory requirements.
- Experience supporting offshore Gulf of Mexico operations.
Work Environment and Travel
Work is performed in offshore oil and gas facilities and shore-based support locations, as required. The position may require travel to offshore facilities and participation in field-based troubleshooting, inspections, commissioning, and major maintenance activities. The employee must be able to meet applicable offshore travel, medical, safety-training, and personal protective equipment requirements.
