Job Description:

The Dual-Certified PET/CT Technologist is responsible for performing high-quality Positron Emission Tomography (PET), Computed Tomography (CT), and combined PET/CT imaging studies in accordance with physician orders, established clinical protocols, regulatory requirements, and accreditation standards. This position requires a qualified Nuclear Medicine Technologist who also holds the appropriate radiologic technology credentials and Florida licensure to independently perform diagnostic CT imaging procedures. The ideal candidate will possess advanced certification in both Nuclear Medicine and Computed Tomography, ensuring the ability to operate PET/CT equipment and perform diagnostic and non-diagnostic CT studies while maintaining compliance with American College of Radiology (ACR) accreditation standards. The technologist will also support the organization's Theranostics program, including radiopharmaceutical therapies such as Pluvicto®, Lutathera®, and Xofigo®. Prior Theranostics experience is preferred but not required, as training will be provided. Additionally, the technologist will receive cross-training in Radiation Oncology CT simulation procedures to support radiation treatment planning and provide operational flexibility across Diagnostic Imaging, Radiation Oncology, and Theranostics services.

This position plays an important role in delivering safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care while supporting clinical workflows, regulatory compliance, and organizational growth.

  • Coordinate radiopharmaceutical ordering, delivery, receipt, inventory, storage, and disposal in collaboration with Nuclear Medicine, Pharmacy, and Radiation Safety personnel.
  • Follow established protocols for radioactive material handling, contamination prevention, exposure monitoring, and radioactive waste management.
  • Perform radiation surveys, contamination monitoring, and documentation associated with therapeutic radiopharmaceutical procedures as assigned.
  • Provide patients and caregivers with radiation safety instructions and post-treatment precautions in accordance with approved protocols.
  • Collaborate with Nuclear Medicine physicians, Radiation Oncologists, Medical Oncologists, nursing staff, and Radiation Safety personnel to ensure safe and efficient treatment delivery.
  • Maintain accurate treatment records and documentation, including radiopharmaceutical activity, administration details, and radioactive material accountability.
  • Participate in Theranostics program development, quality assurance, and workflow standardization.

3. Radiation Oncology CT Simulation Support

  • Complete cross-training in Radiation Oncology CT simulation procedures to support treatment planning and clinical operations.
  • Assist with and perform CT simulation procedures under the direction of the Radiation Oncologist and Radiation Therapy team, once appropriately trained, credentialed, and authorized.
  • Learn and apply patient positioning, immobilization techniques, and imaging protocols specific to Radiation Therapy treatment planning.
  • Assist with patient preparation, setup, and image acquisition for CT simulation.
  • Collaborate with Radiation Therapists, Dosimetrists, and Medical Physicists to ensure accurate imaging and patient setup for treatment planning.
  • Maintain competency in CT simulation procedures and assist with Radiation Oncology workflows as operationally needed, within applicable licensure and scope-of-practice requirements.
  • Follow established Radiation Oncology safety protocols, quality assurance standards, and documentation requirements.

4. Patient Care and Safety

  • Verify physician orders, patient identification, clinical history, and examination requirements.
  • Prepare and administer diagnostic radiopharmaceuticals in accordance with applicable regulations and authorized procedures.
  • Establish intravenous access and administer contrast media when appropriately trained, authorized, and permitted by facility policy.
  • Screen patients for contrast allergies, renal function considerations, pregnancy, and other relevant contraindications.
  • Monitor patients during imaging and therapeutic procedures and respond appropriately to adverse reactions or emergencies.
  • Follow radiation protection principles, including ALARA, and maintain safe practices for patients, staff, and visitors.
  • Provide compassionate, patient-centered care throughout imaging, simulation, and Theranostics procedures.

5. Quality Assurance and Regulatory Compliance

  • Perform and document required daily, weekly, and periodic PET/CT equipment quality control procedures.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable ACR accreditation standards, Florida Department of Health requirements, radioactive materials regulations, and applicable federal and state requirements.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of diagnostic and therapeutic radiopharmaceutical receipt, administration, inventory, and disposal.
  • Ensure CT imaging protocols meet established radiation dose optimization and image quality standards.
  • Participate in accreditation activities, equipment inspections, quality improvement initiatives, and regulatory audits.
  • Maintain current professional certifications, state licensure, and continuing education requirements.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities related to Radiation Oncology CT simulation and Theranostics following completion of required training.
  • Follow the organization's radioactive materials license, Radiation Safety Officer guidance, and approved written procedures for therapeutic radiopharmaceutical services.

6. Operational Responsibilities

  • Coordinate daily imaging schedules to optimize patient throughput and equipment utilization.
  • Assist with scheduling and coordination of Theranostics treatments, including radiopharmaceutical availability and multidisciplinary clinical resources.
  • Work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, Radiation Therapists, Medical Physicists, Dosimetrists, and administrative staff.
  • Identify equipment malfunctions and coordinate timely service or corrective action.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and documentation within applicable clinical information systems.
  • Assist with the implementation and standardization of PET/CT, CT imaging, and Theranostics protocols across multiple locations.
  • Provide operational support to Radiation Oncology services through CT simulation cross-training and coverage as appropriate.
  • Support cross-training, workflow improvements, and operational efficiency initiatives.

Required Qualifications
