Job Description:

Providing for loved ones, planning rewarding retirements, saving enough for whatever lies ahead – our policyholders count on us to be there when it matters most. It’s a big ask, but it’s one that we have the power to deliver when we work together. We collaborate and innovate – pushing one another to transform not just Pacific Life, but the entire industry for the better. Why? Because it’s the right thing to do. Pacific Life is more than a job, it’s a career with purpose. It’s a career where you have the support, balance, and resources to make a positive impact on the future – including your own.

We’re actively seeking a talented Senior Actuary to join our Enterprise Modeling Team. This role is on-site 4 days per week and work from home 1 day per week in Newport Beach, CA, Omaha, NE, or Charlotte, NC. If you are not currently located near one of our offices, we offer comprehensive relocation assistance.

As a Prophet Specialist/Prophet Model Merger, you’ll play a key role in Pacific Life’s growth and long-term success by working on the team that is accountable for model controls and governance, integration, regression testing, and model defect resolution. You’ll sit on a team with the Model Steward and other Prophet Model Developers and will work closely with actuarial developers, data/IT, valuation, pricing, and modeling teams across the organization.

Note: Actual title will reflect the chosen candidate's experience and exam progress. Candidates who meet most but not all requirements are encouraged to apply.

How you will make an impact:

  • Responsible to execute on production aspects of the Model development life cycle related to testing of all valuation and production model implementation and conversion projects (including model merges, library and system upgrades).
  • Support appropriate user approval testing (UAT), model validation, code changes and merges into the Master model.
  • Support defect resolution and mitigation.
  • Maintain model documentation and collaborate with other developers and stakeholders to secure appropriate review/UAT documentation for all changes made to models, impacts under key reporting bases and evidence of all the required approvals.
  • Identify opportunities to automate manual processes and improve model management workflow.
  • Help provide oversight of model staging and integration of production models across all use cases in PE.
  • Partner with IT and functional areas to develop simple, effective, and innovative solutions to simplify modeling processes, including model review and testing processes.
  • Troubleshooting and user support for Enterprise Prophet users.

The experience you will bring:

  • Bachelors in actuarial science, computer science, finance, mathematics or related field.
  • 6+ years’ actuarial experience.
  • FSA designation.
  • 4+ years' experience with model development in Prophet Professional and Prophet Enterprise.
  • Experience coding in Python, Visual Basic, and SQL.
  • Self-starter with ability to develop solutions by collaborating with multiple business partners.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team, and to manage long-term projects.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

What will make you stand out:

  • Production and/or project management skills.
  • Process improvement and automation experience.
  • Cloud experience.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
