The posting

About RIC Power Corporation:

RIC Power Corporation, a Panelmatic Company, is a leading custom manufacturer of medium voltage switchgear, protection, and control systems. We pride ourselves on engineering excellence and delivering high-quality, reliable solutions to our clients across various industries. Join a team dedicated to innovation and quality in a stable and supportive environment.

Position Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Test Technician to join our QC & Testing team. This position is primarily facility-based (approx. 95% in-shop, ~5% on-site/remote field support) and is responsible for independently performing full electrical functional and high-voltage apparatus testing on newly manufactured low and medium voltage switchgear and control systems, in addition to mentoring Test Technicians and supporting the Engineering Quality Lead on Factory Acceptance Testing and test plan development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Electrical Functionality Testing: Independently perform full functional testing of protection and control schemes, including control power distribution, protection relay operation, breaker close/open logic, and interlocks.
  • HV Apparatus Testing: Independently conduct high-voltage apparatus testing, including Hi-Pot, Partial Discharge (PD), BIL, Heat Run, and Contact Resistance testing.
  • Interlock Defeat & Mechanical Safety Verification: Independently perform interlock defeat and mechanical safety verification (door/racking interlocks, TOC/MOC status, etc.) under controlled conditions.
  • Visual, Mechanical & Point-to-Point Backup: Perform or back up Visual & BOM confirmation, mechanical functionality confirmation, and Point-to-Point continuity testing as needed.
  • Minor Defect Correction: Directly fix connection-integrity issues you personally find during your own testing (e.g., a loose or under-torqued connection that already matches the drawing package), without escalation. Anything that does not match the drawing package is flagged back to Production for rework.
  • Electrical Code & Standards: Know and apply relevant electrical codes and standards (CSA, IEEE, UL, etc.) during testing.
  • Test Plans & Reports: Contribute technical input into test plan development and final test reports (does not author).
  • Troubleshooting: Independently troubleshoot and resolve design- or production-related issues in collaboration with Engineering.
  • FAT & Field Support: Lead or back up Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), and independently provide on-site or remote field support (~5%) when required.
  • Mentorship & Production Feedback: Provide informal, on-the-floor guidance to Test Technicians during testing, and, alongside the Engineering Quality Lead, feed findings back to the Production team for learning and improvement.
  • Safety Practice: Work independently and safely, including on energized work; identify and contribute hazards to Job Hazard Analyses (JHA). Stop-work authority applies regardless of tier: halt any test you believe is unsafe.
  • ISO/QMS Contribution: Contribute to ISO/QMS process improvement.
  • Equipment & Supplier Inspection: Verify your own test equipment is current before use, and back up Supplier & incoming-inspection quality checks as needed.

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • Education & Experience: Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering, with 3+ years of experience in low and medium voltage switchgear and power apparatus testing.
  • Technical Expertise: Expert at interpreting complex electrical drawings and performing hands-on testing.
  • Safety: Demonstrated ability to work independently and safely on energized/high-voltage tasks.
  • Soft Skills: Strong troubleshooting abilities, high attention to detail, and proficiency in MS Office for technical reporting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • FAT Experience: Experience with Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) procedures.
  • Standards Knowledge: Working knowledge of relevant industry standards (e.g., CSA, IEEE, ANSI, NETA, UL).
  • Network Testing: Familiarity with communication network testing.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive health, dental and vision coverage
  • RRSP matching program
  • Tuition Reimbursement
  • Paid time-off

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
