For us at Tokmanni Group, it is essential to operate in accordance with our values, caring for both the environment and people. We encourage and support our staff in developing their skills and foster a positive team spirit.

A unique Group-wide role combining data protection and business-oriented legal work

As Legal Counsel & Group Data Protection Officer, you will take Group-level ownership of data protection and privacy matters while also acting as a trusted legal partner to the business across a broad range of commercial legal matters.

This is a newly established Group-wide position reflecting the growing importance of data protection within Tokmanni Group. Initially, data protection will form a significant part of your responsibilities. Over time, however, the role is expected to develop increasingly towards broader Legal Counsel responsibilities, with the exact emphasis shaped by business needs as well as your experience and interests.

As Group Data Protection Officer, you will oversee and further develop Tokmanni Group’s data protection framework, policies, controls, plans and reporting. You will coordinate the implementation of data protection requirements across Finland, Sweden and Denmark, monitor compliance and regulatory developments, advise the business on data protection impact assessments and other statutory obligations, and act as a contact point for supervisory authorities and data subjects. An important part of your role will also be supporting and training different business functions and helping translate data protection requirements into practical ways of working.

In this role, you will take Group-level ownership of the existing data protection framework and play a key role in its continuous development and implementation across Tokmanni Group. You will work closely with local data protection stakeholders in Sweden and Denmark, coordinating and developing a consistent Group-wide approach to data protection.

Alongside your DPO responsibilities, you will provide practical legal support in corporate, commercial, contractual, regulatory and compliance matters. Your work will include drafting, reviewing and negotiating agreements, advising the business on a broad range of legal questions and, when needed, coordinating cooperation with external legal counsel. There is genuine scope to shape the broader legal responsibilities according to your expertise and professional interests.

You will join Tokmanni Group’s small legal team and work closely with colleagues across the organisation. The role offers broad exposure to different Group functions, particularly marketing, procurement, IT, finance and other business operations, and provides an opportunity to build a strong internal network across countries and functions.

Your primary workplace will be Tokmanni Group’s head office in Mäntsälä. The Group operates a hybrid working model, offering the possibility to work remotely depending on the requirements of the role and the business. The position does not require regular travel, although some travel to Sweden and Denmark is expected particularly in the beginning to become familiar with the local organisations, ways of working and key stakeholders.

What kind of Legal Counsel & Group DPO are we looking for?

You are an experienced legal professional with strong expertise in data protection and privacy law and the ability to apply regulatory requirements pragmatically in a business environment. In addition to your data protection expertise, you have experience with commercial agreements and are motivated by the opportunity to work broadly across different areas of business law.

You are comfortable taking ownership and working independently, while at the same time building trusted relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. You can challenge existing thinking constructively, communicate your legal perspective convincingly and turn complex legal requirements into practical solutions. You are proactive, solution-oriented and able to make well-reasoned decisions also in situations that require agility.

We expect you to have

  • A Finnish Master of Laws degree (OTM) or an equivalent foreign degree formally recognised in Finland
  • Approximately 3–5 years or more of relevant experience in data protection and other legal responsibilities, including experience relevant to DPO work
  • Strong knowledge of data protection and privacy law and experience applying data protection requirements in a practical business environment
  • Experience in drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial agreements
  • A pragmatic, business-oriented approach to legal advice and the ability to balance regulatory requirements with business objectives
  • Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills and the ability to work independently across functions
  • Professional-level proficiency in Finnish and English, both written and spoken.

We also value

  • Experience from an international business environment and/or a Group structure
  • Experience from consumer business
  • Knowledge and experience in compliance and/or sustainability-related legal matters
  • Knowledge of AI and/or cybersecurity regulation
  • CIPP/E certification or other relevant data protection qualifications
  • Proficiency in Swedish
  • Interest in using AI tools effectively and responsibly as part of legal and data protection work.

What we offer you

• A group-level role in a growing and international publicly listed company, which is one of the leading discount retail chains in the Nordic countries

• A responsible and business-critical role where you can utilize and share your expertise and actively participate in the development of organizational practices

• The opportunity to work in a workplace where the company's values genuinely reflect daily work

• Rewarding collaboration with friendly, encouraging, and supportive colleagues

• Hybrid work model

• The opportunity to develop in your job

• Benefits including staff discounts, wellbeing benefits and other locally available employee benefits

• Your own mentor who will support you in your new job

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
