The posting

Position Overview

Paramount Field Services is seeking an experienced Contract Field Landman to support title research, due diligence, and leasing work in Monroe County, Ohio. Monroe County sits in the core of the Utica/Point Pleasant and Marcellus plays, and the work involves complex mineral ownership histories, severed estates, and active development. The successful candidate will work primarily at the Monroe County Courthouse in Woodsfield and in the field, producing accurate, well-documented work product that meets Paramount and client standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform mineral and surface title research in the Monroe County Recorder, Auditor, Probate Court, and Clerk of Courts records, including current owner reports and full mineral chains of title.
  • Prepare runsheets, title abstracts, ownership reports, and supporting document packages to Paramount and client specifications.
  • Identify and document title issues, including severed and reserved mineral interests, unreleased leases, probate and heirship gaps, and potential Ohio Dormant Mineral Act and Marketable Title Act considerations, and escalate them for review.
  • Research and report on existing oil and gas leases, assignments, releases, memoranda, ratifications, and unitization or pooling documents.
  • Conduct heirship and owner-locate research using courthouse records, obituaries, and approved public-record databases.
  • Negotiate and acquire oil and gas leases, lease amendments, ratifications, and curative documents with mineral owners when assigned, within client-approved terms.
  • Assist with right-of-way and surface use work, including easement and pipeline title research, as project needs require.
  • Maintain accurate daily logs, document images, and data entry in Paramount and client systems, and submit timesheets and expense reports on schedule.
  • Communicate project status, blockers, and findings promptly to the Project Manager or Lead Landman, following Paramount chain-of-command procedures.
  • Represent Paramount and its clients professionally with landowners, courthouse staff, and the public.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of [2] years of field landman experience, including oil and gas title research in Ohio or the Appalachian Basin.
  • Demonstrated ability to run complete mineral chains of title and prepare clear runsheets and ownership reports.
  • Working knowledge of Ohio real property and oil and gas records, including familiarity with the Ohio Dormant Mineral Act (ORC 5301.56) and Ohio Marketable Title Act (ORC 5301.47 et seq.).
  • Understanding of oil and gas lease provisions, conveyance instruments, and probate records.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel and Word) and comfort learning client title and data platforms.
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and current auto insurance.
  • Laptop, portable scanner or camera, and mobile phone suitable for courthouse and field work.
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and maintain strict confidentiality of client and ownership information.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior title or leasing experience in Monroe, Belmont, Noble, Washington, Guernsey, or other eastern Ohio counties.
  • AAPL membership; RPL or CPL designation.
  • Experience with mineral owner negotiations and lease acquisition.
  • Experience with land and title software such as Courthouse Direct, ThoughtTrace, or similar platforms, and basic GIS or mapping tools.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Energy Management, Land Management, Business, or a related field.

Contractor Requirements

  • Engagement is on an independent contractor (1099) basis.
  • Contractor must provide a completed W-9 and proof of general liability and auto insurance at the limits required by Paramount [confirm limits].
  • Contractor must sign Paramount’s independent contractor agreement and confidentiality agreement prior to starting work.
  • Successful completion of a background check [and drug screen, if required by client].

Working Conditions

  • Primary work location is the Monroe County Courthouse in Woodsfield, Ohio, with travel to surrounding county courthouses and field locations as assigned.
  • Courthouse work involves extended periods of sitting, handling heavy record books, and operating copy and scanning equipment.
  • Field work may include driving rural roads and meeting landowners in person.

Professional Review Note

Contract landmen gather, organize, and report title information. Title opinions and legal determinations, including conclusions on dormant mineral abandonment, are made by licensed attorneys. Contractors are expected to flag such issues for attorney or senior landman review rather than resolve them independently.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
