Pattern has been named one of the fastest growing tech companies headquartered in North America by Deloitte and one of best-led companies by Inc. We place employee experience at the center of our business model and have been recognized as one of Newsweek’s Global Most Loved Workplaces®.

We are looking for a driven Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) Intern who is ready for an immersive, real-world finance experience at a fast-growing company. Working alongside our full-time FP&A Analysts and under the supervision of the FP&A Manager, you will help turn financial and operational data into the forecasts, models, and reporting that leadership uses to make decisions. You will build real analyses that the business relies on, not just observe them. If you are analytical, detail-oriented, and excited to learn how a high-growth ecommerce company plans, forecasts, and measures performance, we encourage you to apply!

What does a typical day look like for an Financial Planning and Analysis intern?

  • Assist with preparing and distributing financial analysis and reporting packages, and analyze information related to current performance versus budget and forecast
  • Work with other Financial Analysts to prepare sensitivity analyses on the impact to revenue, expenses, and profitability by modeling changes in key variables
  • Develop detailed financial forecasts of the financial statements, incorporating key financial and operational metrics
  • Pull, clean, and reconcile financial and operational data from multiple sources, and ensure the numbers in your models and reports tie out
  • Perform variance analysis, investigate the drivers behind the numbers, and summarize your findings for the FP&A team in a clear, concise way
  • Support month-end, quarterly, and annual budgeting and forecasting cycles with updates to models and supporting schedules
  • Build and refine reporting and dashboards that track key financial and operational metrics, and look for ways to make recurring reports more scalable and automated
  • Document model assumptions, methodologies, and processes so that your work can be reviewed, understood, and reused by others
  • Own a project or analysis during your internship and present your findings and recommendations to the FP&A team

What will I need to thrive in this role?

  • Junior or Senior in college working toward a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or another related field
  • Foundational knowledge of accounting and finance principles, including the three financial statements and how they connect
  • Analytical and financial modeling skills preferred
  • Confident in Excel, VBA, MS Office, and Google Sheets skills
  • Familiarity with Cloud-based planning systems, NetSuite and Tableau preferred
  • Knowledge of how to work with large amounts of data to develop scalable financial reporting solutions
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a habit of asking "why" behind the numbers and checking your work before you share it
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy, especially when working with large volumes of financial data
  • Outstanding communication and organization abilities, including the ability to explain financial concepts and findings clearly to non-finance teammates and to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Handle sensitive and confidential financial information with honesty and integrity
  • Collaboration, receptiveness to feedback, and eagerness to learn

What does high performance look like?

  • You follow through with all assignments in a timely manner
  • You give 100% to all tasks and projects you are given
  • You will take full ownership of your projects and follow through to completion
  • Your models and reports are accurate, clearly documented, and trusted by the people who rely on them
  • You go beyond the numbers: you explain what is driving the results and recommend a clear next step
  • You spot issues and risks early and bring forward solutions, not just problems
  • You look for ways to automate or simplify recurring analyses and manual work
  • You ask thoughtful questions, seek out feedback, and apply it quickly

What is my potential for career growth?

  • This role will provide opportunities for mentorship and networking. You will build hands-on experience in financial modeling, forecasting, and business analysis that translates directly to careers in corporate finance, FP&A, and strategic finance. It could also lead to a potential full-time job following excellent performance throughout the internship.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
