The Early Intervention program of People Incorporated is looking for a caring Translator/Interpreter. The Early Intervention (EI) Translator provides language interpretation services to support communication between early intervention providers, children, and families with limited English proficiency or those who are deaf or hard of hearing. The Early Intervention Translator ensures accurate and culturally sensitive interpretation during assessments, meetings, and service delivery, enabling effective communication and participation for all parties involved.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provide real-time interpretation during early intervention sessions, intakes, assessments, home visits, Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) meetings, and other relevant interactions as requested by EI Developmental Specialists, Therapists, and Supervisors.
  • Accurately convey spoken or signed language between English and the target language, ensuring that the meaning, tone, and intent of the original communication are preserved.
  • Act as a cultural liaison, helping EI team members to understand cultural nuances that may affect communication and service delivery.
  • Assist families in understanding the cultural context of the EI services, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records of interpretation sessions as required by the organization, including time spent, services provided, and any significant observations.
  • Translate written documents, such as consent forms, informational brochures, and service plans, as requested.
  • Participate in team meetings to discuss service delivery and contribute to the development of effective communication strategies.
  • Adhere to all confidentiality requirements and professional ethics related to interpreting in EI settings.
  • Maintain a neutral and impartial stance during all interpreting assignments, ensuring that personal opinions or biases do not influence the communication process.
  • Participate in ongoing training to stay updated on best practices in interpretation, EI services, and cultural competency.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor, division management team member, or division director.
  • Participate in all staff meetings and required training sessions, including in-service training, as scheduled.
  • Maintain all program and Agency required trainings.

QUALIFICATION

  • Written and verbal fluency in English and the target language(s) (spoken or sign language).
  • Strong understanding of medical and educational terminology relevant to early intervention.
  • Maintain on file a current copy of all required professional licenses, CPR, first aid, and health records.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
