The posting

Backed by leading Silicon Valley investors, Peregrine helps public safety organizations, state and local and governments, federal agencies, and private-sector institutions address society’s challenges with unprecedented speed and accuracy. Our AI-enabled platform turns siloed and disconnected data into operational intelligence — instantly surfacing mission-critical information to empower better, faster decisions that improve outcomes at every touchpoint. Today Peregrine supports hundreds of customers across 30+ states and two countries, serving more than 125 million people — and we’re amplifying our impact as we expand into the enterprise and internationally.

The Role

As Head of Revenue Accounting, you will lead and build Peregrine’s revenue accounting function for its next stage of growth. You will own revenue recognition end to end, from contract intake and ASC 606 analysis through billing, the monthly revenue waterfall, and the close. Just as important, you will build the infrastructure that lets the business scale: audit-ready processes, strong controls, and systems that turn highly complex data from a variety of sources into numbers we can stand behind. This is a hands-on leadership role: you will set the technical standard, coach and develop the existing team while growing it, and partner with Sales, Deal Desk, Revenue Operations, Legal, FP&A, as our revenue models grow in complexity. You will report to the VP, Controller.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the existing revenue accounting team, coaching and developing current team members while planning and hiring strategically to grow it, and set a high bar for technical rigor, documentation, and ownership
  • Own revenue recognition under ASC 606 across subscription and usage-based arrangements, including performance obligations, SSP, contract modifications, variable consideration, and multi-year or option-year structures
  • Interpret ambiguity in new and emerging revenue arrangements, including AI-based revenue components under U.S. GAAP, and turn it into audit-ready, defensible accounting policies and technical memos
  • Own the monthly and quarterly revenue close, including the revenue waterfall, deferred revenue, unbilled receivables, and related reconciliations, plus reporting that provides insights on the performance of the business, with a predictable close calendar
  • Build audit-ready infrastructure: documented policies, technical accounting memos, controls, and workpapers that stand up to external audit and support future SOX and IPO readiness
  • Serve as primary owner of the revenue audit with external auditors, from planning through sign-off
  • Design, implement, and optimize the revenue systems stack, including NetSuite Advanced Revenue Management (ARM), and the integrations between billing, CRM, usage data, and the general ledger
  • Turn highly complex usage and billing data from a variety of sources into accurate, reconciled revenue you can stand behind, and automate manual processes wherever possible
  • As part of building the function, evaluate opportunities to embed AI into our revenue accounting processes
  • Own accounting for sales commissions, including capitalization and amortization under ASC 340-40
  • Advise Sales, Deal Desk, Legal, Product, and Finance leadership on the accounting impact of new deals, pricing and packaging, and new products before they are signed

Who You Are

  • CPA required, with 12+ years of progressive revenue accounting or controllership experience at a software or technology company, including team leadership and building or scaling a function; Big Four public accounting experience is a plus
  • Deep technical command of ASC 606, with hands-on experience in software subscription and usage-based revenue models; government or public-sector contract experience (milestone billing, consortium structures, option years) is a plus
  • Experience in a fast-growing environment, comfortable with ambiguity, with a record of building audit-ready processes, controls, and documentation; IPO or first SOX readiness experience is a plus
  • Hands-on NetSuite experience, including ARM, and experience leading systems implementations or optimizations; familiarity with billing and usage-based revenue systems, sales tax tools, and commissions software is required
  • Strong data skills: comfortable working with large data volumes from disparate sources, in advanced Excel, SQL, or equivalent, and AI-native, with examples of automating close, reconciliation, or reporting work
  • Skilled at building strong relationships across the business, with excellent written and verbal communication
  • Proven ability to recruit, manage, and develop accounting talent; international or multi-entity experience is a plus
  • This role is in-office four days a week at our San Francisco location (2nd & Market)

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
