The posting

It's fun to work in a company where people truly BELIEVE in what they're doing!

We're committed to bringing passion and customer focus to the business.

Peter Millar was founded in 2001 with a single cashmere sweater offered in 24 colors. Based in Raleigh and Durham, North Carolina, the American lifestyle brand has grown to include luxury performance sportswear, seasonal resort and country club apparel, sophisticated classics, casually refined tailored clothing and sartorial accessories.

We strive to capture timeless style upgraded with signature innovations, in designs that are in tune with modern life. We embrace working hard, being kind and doing right by our customers, aiming to set a higher standard for the apparel industry.

It is the responsibility of the visual merchandiser to uphold the brand image and values of Peter Millar throughout North America. Working in close partnership with the retail team, this role will develop and execute strategic initiatives before and during store visits, ensuring visual excellence and brand consistency across multiple distribution channels. Through these efforts, the role will strengthen business results, enhance the customer experience, elevate product storytelling, increase visibility of key and top-performing products, and build confidence among store associates by equipping them with the knowledge and tools needed to drive engagement and sales. Specialty projects, including the US Open, Chicago Collective, and Raleigh Showroom, are an integral part of this role, requiring the development and execution of compelling visual storytelling strategies that elevate the brand experience and support business growth.

This position is based in New York with approximately 80% travel throughout North America. Due to the nature and future needs of the role, candidates should also be open to the possibility of relocating to North Carolina.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Execute interior visual merchandising that align with brand standards, seasonal directives, and visual storytelling initiatives.
  • Ensure merchandise presentation, product placement, and store environments consistently meet company visual standards and deliver an elevated customer experience.
  • Partner closely with Store Managers and cross-functional teams to support visual execution, seasonal priorities, and overall business objectives.
  • Develop and execute store layouts that optimize product placement, color flow, mannequin styling, fixture presentation, and seasonal storytelling.
  • Analyze selling trends and product performance to make informed merchandising adjustments that maximize product visibility and sales opportunities.
  • Train, mentor, and support store associates on visual merchandising standards, product presentation, and best practices during seasonal transitions, floor sets, and key business initiatives.
  • Create store-specific planograms and provide creative solutions to address unique merchandising opportunities and operational challenges.
  • Lead and execute visual installations, store resets, product launches, showroom presentations, window updates, and special events, ensuring projects are completed on time and to brand standards.
  • Support retail stores, showroom environments, and off-site events through hands-on visual merchandising, installations, and project execution.
  • Partner on specialty retail initiatives and major wholesale projects, ensuring consistent brand presentation across all channels.
  • Manage travel schedules and project timelines to support the successful execution of seasonal rollouts, major initiatives, and special projects.
  • Maintain visual merchandising tools, props, fixtures, and showroom environments, ensuring organization, upkeep, and adherence with brand standards.
  • Provide clear communication through visual recaps, photo documentation, project updates, and field feedback to support continuous improvement.

COMPETENCIES:

  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and organizational skills, with a practical, flexible, and self-motivated approach; able to work independently, adapt to evolving priorities, and cultivate a collaborative team environment.
  • Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail, strong prioritization skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects effectively.
  • Strong aesthetic sensibility with a deep understanding of luxury brand presentation, visual excellence, and storytelling.
  • Excellent communication and project management skills
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively within a team environment while confidently leading, managing, and executing visual merchandising setups independently.
  • Proficient in PowerPoint, photography, and planogram development, with strong spatial awareness expertise.
  • Flexibility to work varied schedules, including nights, weekends, blackout periods, and occasional overnight installations, as required to support major company projects and business needs.
  • Ability to lift 50lbs, move fixtures and climb ladders when needed.

DESIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • 7+ years of visual merchandising experience; multi-store experience strongly preferred
  • Luxury visual merchandising experience with a strong background across retail, Direct-to-Consumer (DTC), wholesale, and specialty retail environments, with proven ability to maintain brand consistency while adapting visual strategies to diverse store formats and customer needs.
  • Proven success partnering with store leadership, field teams, and cross-functional corporate partners to achieve business objectives.
  • Experience planning and executing large-scale visual installations, store openings, remodels, showroom presentations, and special events.
  • Experience creating and delivering visual communication tools, presentations, and training materials for field and store teams.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
