The posting

Petra Funds Group is a single source provider for the fund administration and fund infrastructure needs of Private Equity and Debt Funds. At Petra, we enable fund managers to focus on the tasks that add the most value to their businesses and leave the rest to us.

Petra is made up of highly experienced professionals across the US and Europe. In a business where accuracy and timeliness are paramount, having a deep bench who have spent years working inside of asset managers is what truly differentiates us.

Our foundation is built on trust, experience, and uncompromising accuracy. Our people are experts. We work collaboratively. We are relentless in our process and put attention to detail first.

The Real Estate Senior Fund Accountant will be responsible for reviewing and reconciling property-level accounting, reporting, and reconciliations across a national portfolio of affordable housing assets held through our Client's joint ventures. This position reports to the Fund CFO, with a dotted line into the Real Estate Asset Management team and oversees the property level work of the firm’s third-party administrator. This role would work closely with joint venture partners, property management teams, and asset management staff to ensure timely, accurate financial information. Property financials are reviewed and normalized by the fund’s administrator and then rolled up to the fund level.

This is an opportunity to work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment where precision, curiosity, organization, and teamwork drive success.

Responsibilities:

  • Review normalized financials prepared by the fund administrator, compare them to the financials generated at the properties and seek to address differences. This may involve identifying any mapping discrepancies, differences in accounting methods or errors by the fund administrator and/or property accounting teams.
  • Support the integration and enhancement of technology tools to drive automation and data quality
  • Prepare and review monthly and quarterly property-level financial statements for assets held in joint ventures
  • Review journal entries, accruals, and adjustments to ensure compliance with GAAP
  • Review general ledgers and trial balances for property-level entities
  • Track property operating cash flows, reserves, and distributions
  • Review distribution calculations for accuracy; partner with internal teams to approve fund distributions
  • Coordinate with property management teams to reconcile operating accounts and address accounting discrepancies
  • Work directly with the third-party fund administrator on monthly property-level reconciliations
  • Review budget to actual differences for accuracy and completeness
  • Provide property-level financial data to support fund-level reporting and investor deliverables
  • Ensure consistency between property and fund accounting records
  • Support the Fund Controller and Fund CFO with quarterly review and audit processes
  • Assist in developing and standardizing property-level accounting procedures and reporting templates
  • Support system and process enhancements (e.g., Yardi, MRI, or other accounting tools)
  • Maintain accurate and organized accounting documentation for all assets

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 3–6 years of accounting experience in real estate (affordable, multifamily, or mixed-income preferred)
  • Familiarity with NCREIF industry guidelines and performance return calculations preferred
  • Desired experience with Power BI, Power Query, Alteryx
  • Experience working with third-party property managers and joint venture partners
  • Familiarity with Yardi, MRI, and comparable accounting systems preferred
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and property-level financial statements
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Clear and professional communication style
  • Collaborative mindset — able to work cross-functionally with property management, asset management, and fund accounting partners
  • Interest in affordable housing and impact-oriented investment

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
