About the Team

The Supply Chain team focuses on keeping things moving across all aspects of our business. They make an impact by ensuring our products get from the vendors to the DCs to the stores in the most efficient and timely way. Their goal is to improve each step within the process, so we have the right product at the right place at the right time for our pet parents.

About the Location

Collaborative Work Environment: At PetSmart, teamwork and connection are core to how we thrive. This role is based at our Phoenix Home Office, with an expectation of working a minimum of four days in the office each week. In a standard work week, associates may work up to one remote “flex day” (with leader approval). Our hybrid approach is designed to foster strong collaboration while also supporting flexibility and individual success.

About the Job

We are currently seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Sr. Supply Chain Planner – Distribution to join our team. This role will support financial planning, reporting, and analysis for distribution operations, helping to provide insights into cost drivers and overall supply chain performance.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of finance and supply chain concepts, strong analytical skills, and a deep understanding of distribution operations and their impact on labor spend.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Planning:

  • Annual Non-Exempt Labor Plan: Develop the annual DC labor financial plan by translating volume, productivity, overtime, maintenance hours, and operational initiatives into labor hours and dollars by distribution center and period. Partner with Operations, Engineering, and volume planners to validate assumptions, allocate productivity and savings targets, and reconcile the detailed plan to financial targets and finance submissions.
  • Partner with DC leadership to ensure financial data aligns with operational assumptions and planning inputs.

Budgeting and Forecasting:

  • Non-Exempt Labor Forecasting and Production Builds: Own the monthly DC labor financial forecast process, translating volume into job-function labor hours by distribution center and period using production rates, historical activity patterns, and operational assumptions. Actualize results, update production builds, model LPH and savings impacts, reconcile forecast volume and hours to finance submissions, and explain key changes and variances to Operations and Finance.
  • Help monitor actual performance against budget and forecast, identifying and flagging variances for further analysis.
  • Support scenario analysis efforts (ex. volume shifts, rounding profile updates, temp labor scenario analysis) by updating inputs and validating outputs.

Cost Analysis and Optimization:

  • Lead financial analysis across distribution labor metrics to identify, quantify, and validate cost-saving opportunities and track realized savings from implemented initiatives.
  • Support ongoing cost-saving initiatives by tracking performance against expectations and maintaining documentation of results.

Financial Reporting and monthly close activities:

  • Distribution Monthly Business Review Support: Prepare network distribution MBR materials by analyzing actuals, forecast, and financial results; validate key drivers with business owners; and summarize labor, productivity, overtime, maintenance, and other spend variances in clear executive-level commentary.
  • Overtime and Special Projects Hours Reporting: Run automated weekly overtime reports and support special-project labor-hour reclasses by extracting and validating time data, converting minutes to hours, organizing results by DC and project, and distributing and archiving reports for review and audit.
  • Temporary Labor Month-End Close: Reconcile temp labor invoices and checkbook estimates to SAP postings; research invoice status, update accruals for incurred but unposted labor, and allocate costs accurately across DC and fulfillment center accounts. Code and route invoices for approval, and support timely, accurate period close.
  • Ensure data accuracy and consistency across reports, helping reconcile differences between operational and financial data sources.
  • Support the team in building clear and organized reporting to highlight key insights.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Work collaboratively with distribution, supply chain, and finance teams to gather data and support analysis
  • Communicate findings clearly to team members, escalating issues or discrepancies as needed
  • Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying opportunities to streamline reporting and data processes

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in financial planning and analysis, preferably within the supply chain, logistics, or manufacturing industry.
  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in financial modeling and data analysis tools.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey financial information to both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
  • Detail-oriented and proactive mindset, with a focus on continuous improvement.

Additional Job Considerations

  • This role requires collaboration, teamwork, and face-to-face interaction with colleagues, leaders, and/or clients.
  • Being in the office ensures access to leaders, cross-functional partners, and resources necessary to make timely decisions and drive results.
  • On-site presence in accordance with our FlexSmart policy supports our culture of innovation, mentorship, and engagement, which is integral to our success in developing the best team.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
