Job Title: Equipment Repair SpecialistDepartment: Water Treatment PlantShift: Wednesday through Sunday, 11:30 am – 8:00 pmUnion: Pittsburgh Joint Collective Bargaining Committee (PJCBC)Rate: $35.022FLSA Status: Non-Exempt The Equipment Repair Specialist will work as a team member to follow safe procedures and provide proactive maintenance for corrective, preventive, and predictive maintenance at the Water Treatment Plant. RESPONSIBILITIES• Repairs, services, and performs routine preventive maintenance and diagnostic tests on various types of equipment such as:• Centrifugal water pumps, vertical pumps, priming pumps, peristaltic pumps, diaphragm pumps, sump pumps, sewage pumps, etc.• General lawn equipment including push mowers, self-propelled mowers, riding mowers, weed whackers, chain saws, blowers, etc.• Clarifier equipment including, sludge collectors, screw conveyors, flocculators, chain drives, chain tensioners, etc.• Chemical feeders, hoppers, augers, mixers, rapid mixers• Mobile and stationary compressor maintenance and installation• Various types of valve repair including gate, GA valves, rotary valves, check valves, dump valves, surge valves, butterfly valves, seal replacements, etc.• Various types of couplers• Mobile and stationary generators• Small engines, diesel engines, carburetors, fuel filters, oil filters, etc.• Maintenance of various types and sized motors• Filter controls, hydraulic systems and cylinders, chlorination equipment, chemical systems, air scour blowers, dust collector systems, and carbon systems• Extensive use of hand tools, power tools, parts cleaners, lubricants and related hardware• Inspects all mechanical equipment, engines, chemical systems, hydraulic systems and replaces appropriate parts• Works on repair projects as part of a team with other tradesmen or individually as needed• Tests mobile/stationary equipment to assess mechanical problems to ensure proper repairs as required• Keeps a list of brands, model, serial number, part numbers for replacement parts for repairs or for inventory• Keeps accurate records on maintenance of equipment• May operate appropriate equipment such as: generators, torches, cab cranes, remote cranes, diesel pumps, truck crane, forklift, power tools, etc.• May drive a truck of less than one ton in daily routine; May operate plow/salt truck when required• Must have the ability to climb up or down 60ft, work on ladders/scaffolding, operate cab crane• May assist in the unloading of material• Must be able to abide by all safety requirements and use of safety equipment/PPE• May work all shifts, scheduled overtime, and call-outs as assigned or requested• May perform activities and functions of related lower-level personnel as assigned• May perform various other related tasks as assigned KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES• Considerable knowledge of water purification and pumping station operations and related equipment, tools and of the safety hazards and precautions of the work• Some knowledge of physical sciences such as chemistry and physics, basic engineering, and mathematics• Ability to operate all associated supporting and control equipment (e.g., flocculator drive, mixers, etc.)• Monitor and control the operation of remote pumping stations’ rapid sand filters, backwash and chemical feed center utilizing PWSA’s automated processing system• Examine taste and odor conditions and to report problems to supervisor; to maintain accurate and legible records and logs pertaining to all phases of the work• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, associates, outside agencies and the general public• Some computer skills and some knowledge of the SCADA System are preferred EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTSThe following requirements list the minimum education/training/experience required to qualify for this job. An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be accepted. • Three (3) years of experience repairing, servicing, and performing routine preventive maintenance on various kinds of mechanical equipment and engines (e.g. mobile and stationary compressors, flocculators, water pumps, etc.) or an equivalent combination of education and experience. GENERAL REQUIREMENTSPerformance and/or written exam may be required. Applicant must present a current, valid Class C (Class 1) Motor Vehicle Operator’s License at the time of application or prior to appointment.  A valid driver’s license must be maintained throughout employment. SUPERVISION EXERCISED / RECEIVEDNo direct reports / Will receive supervision from the Plant Maintenance Foreman. PHYSICAL DEMANDSThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and depth perception. CONDITIONSWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to a moderate or quiet noise level in the office work environment. May perform work outdoors under extreme weather. The employee may be exposed to confined, high spaces, like erect scaffolding; loud conditions with vibrations, traffic, mechanical, chemical, fire, and explosive risks; and odors, dusts, fumes, mists, poor ventilation, and gases which may require a respirator. Availability to work all three shifts, as well as weekends, and holidays. Subject to remain on duty beyond normal hours and/or recalled during emergency situations or other extensive periods.
