Job Description:

POLITICO is looking for an experienced editor of impeccable judgment for a 12-month, 4 days per week contract to join our growing global standards and ethics team to ensure the integrity of our journalism across all platforms and deepen our bonds of trust with readers.

This role comes with a mandate to uphold POLITICO’s editorial values and commitment to authoritative, nonpartisan and tough-mindedly fair journalism; to provide an essential quality check on all the work we do; and to set guidelines but more importantly in real time help journalists resolve knotty ethical questions as they arise.

This editor will serve as a hands-on collaborator with other editors on pre-publication reporting and reviews of our most sensitive content as well as the countless issues that come up in the course of producing ambitious and innovative journalism.

This editor will take a lead role in writing and updating newsroom policies and stylebook entries to offer clear direction to the staff across the globe and work alongside others to assist on training and development programs for our journalists.

This 32-hours-a-week position can be based in Arlington, VA, New York, NY or Sacramento, CA with the strong preference to work Eastern Standard Time evenings.

What You’ll Do:

  • Serve as a hands-on editor who can offer pre-publication guidance on stories
  • Address and resolve issues related to our journalism after it is published
  • Help research and write newsroom policies on ethics and professional behavior and stylebook entries
  • Assist in designing training and development programs for POLITICO journalists

What You’ll Need:

  • A rigorous commitment to fair-minded, nonpartisan journalism
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks at once at a demanding pace
  • Desire to collaborate with journalists across the newsroom, helping broker solutions to challenging situations
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence and the highest standards of professional integrity.

Compensation:

  • $100,000–$120,000 annual salary, based on a four-day-per-week (80% FTE) schedule

About Us.

POLITICO illuminates the forces shaping global power. Since 2007, we have delivered intelligence that anticipates tomorrow's headlines, not reports on yesterday's news. As politics has increasingly become the defining force of our era, our work has never been more vital.

Cabinet secretaries and Ministers start their mornings with our analysis. CEOs shape strategy around our reporting. Advocacy leaders rely on our insights to move policy. We deliver the straightforward facts and clear-eyed analysis they need to navigate the most complex political landscape of our lifetimes.

Our 1,100+ publishing professionals across the world's key democratic capitals—Washington, Brussels, London, Paris, Berlin, Sacramento, and New York—form the world's premier politics and policy newsroom. We tell the story of how power really works by explaining who wields it and how they plan to exercise it, connecting dots others miss and delivering scoops from sources others don't even know exist.

Innovation has always been a core tenet of our story. At launch, we bet that depth would trump scale, that talent would trump traffic, and that politics would become central to modern life. In 2011, we made another bet and launched POLITICO Pro to help decision-makers understand the business of government, transforming both how they shape government action and the business of journalism itself.

These bets have made POLITICO the most successful digital news startup of its generation and the indispensable resource for leaders who shape the future. Today, we are a rarity in media: a growing, profitable, and sustainable news organization.

POLITICO is a subsidiary of Axel Springer SE, a family-owned transatlantic media company headquartered in Berlin and New York. Axel Springer is dedicated to shaping the future of journalism in the free world, believing that a free and informed society is essential to democracy. The company’s guiding principles - first articulated as The Essentials by founder Axel Springer in the aftermath of World War II - remain a cornerstone of the company’s foundation today. Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
