The posting

Company Introduction

Polymer Capital Management is a market-neutral, multi-manager investment platform focused on Asia. We bring together investment, quantitative, risk and technology teams across the region to support disciplined research and trading.

Job Brief

We are looking for a KDB Developer to join our Risk & Quant Analytics team in Shanghai. This is a data-engineering role focused on using q/KDB+ to build and operate data solutions for quantitative research, analytics and trading-related workflows.

You will work across the data lifecycle: ingesting data from source systems, modelling and transforming it, making it available for efficient analysis, and maintaining the quality, performance and reliability of the KDB environment. You will collaborate with quantitative researchers, data users, developers and infrastructure specialists.

The role is open to different experience levels. Strong q/KDB+ experience is preferred, but candidates with a strong data-engineering foundation and the ability to become productive in q/KDB+ are also encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain q/KDB+ solutions for storing, processing and querying time-series and analytical data.
  • Build and support data ingestion and transformation workflows from source systems into KDB+.
  • Design data models, schemas and query patterns that support reliable and efficient use of data.
  • Implement data validation and quality controls, and investigate missing, inconsistent or unexpected data.
  • Analyse and improve the performance of queries, transformations and data pipelines.
  • Make curated data available to quantitative researchers, analysts and other downstream consumers.
  • Monitor production data flows and KDB services, diagnose failures and restore normal processing.
  • Improve the reliability, maintainability and operational support of the KDB data platform.
  • Test changes and participate in code reviews and technical design discussions.
  • Document data flows, models, interfaces, operational procedures and important technical decisions.
  • Take ownership of assigned work from requirement analysis through implementation, validation and production support.
  • Communicate progress clearly and raise data, delivery or operational risks early.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electronic engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • At least three years of experience developing and supporting production data pipelines, data platforms or analytical data systems, preferably within a hedge fund, investment firm or related financial-services environment.
  • Strong data-engineering and problem-solving fundamentals.
  • Good understanding of data modelling, transformation, validation and data-quality practices.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming or data-query language, with the ability to learn q.
  • Interest in financial markets and the ability to handle data correctly based on how downstream users consume and interpret it.
  • Ability to reason about data lineage, system behaviour, failure cases and operational recovery.
  • Ability to investigate technical and data issues methodically and explain the evidence behind a proposed solution.
  • Working knowledge of source control, testing and collaborative development practices.
  • Clear written and verbal communication and the ability to work with both technical stakeholders and data users.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong q and KDB+ development experience.
  • Experience with high-volume exchange tick data, including Level 1 and Level 2 data, is a strong plus.
  • Experience with market, trading, risk or other quantitative datasets.
  • Experience designing and optimising KDB+ tables, queries and data-processing workflows.
  • Familiarity with batch or streaming data ingestion, monitoring, logging and production support.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
