Job Title: Finance Manager, Insurance

Location: United States

Workplace Type: Remote

The future is bright for the Porch Group, and we’d love for you to be a part of it as our Finance Manager, Insurance.

The Finance Manager will report into the Sr. Director, Insurance FP&A and will join the Insurance Finance team as a versatile finance partner supporting the insurance business. This role supports budgeting, forecasting, and analysis across the insurance division, and takes on special projects spanning M&A, capital, reinsurance, risk management, and strategic initiatives. Because this work informs decisions at the leadership level and is reviewed by auditors and external partners, accuracy, sound judgment, and clear communication are essential.

As the business grows and we take on strategic transactions, the complexity of our capital and reinsurance work continues to increase. This is a standing, high-visibility role with a path toward leading a growing area of the insurance finance function. We also want someone who uses AI tools such as Claude as part of their daily workflow to build efficiency into modeling, analysis, and reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

Capital and Risk

  • Analyze the company's capital structure and requirements and provide recommendations to improve capital efficiency and financial stability.
  • Support Balance Sheet forecasting and the capital evaluation models used to assess funding and capital opportunities.
  • Monitor and report on rating agency and regulatory metrics, including surplus, risk retention levels, net combined ratio, and RBC.
  • Support the corporate risk management insurance program, including policy renewals, coverage analysis, and related cost forecasting.
  • Conduct risk assessments and stress tests to evaluate resilience against potential adverse scenarios.

Planning, Forecasting, and Analysis

  • Support the annual budget, quarterly forecast, and monthly forecast for the insurance division.
  • Conduct financial analysis and variance reporting on performance, profitability, unit economics, and operational efficiency.
  • Take on special projects and ad hoc analysis across the Insurance Finance function as business priorities evolve.

Strategic Support and Continuity

  • Document processes, models, and key assumptions so that work is shared and audit ready.
  • Contribute to cross-training across the team so that critical processes have more than one owner.

Partnership and Reporting

  • Prepare analysis and materials for senior finance leadership, auditors, rating agencies, and reinsurance partners, explaining technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences.
  • Collaborate with Premium, Losses, Corporate Finance, and Actuarial partners to keep assumptions and outputs aligned.
  • Use AI tools to streamline recurring analysis, catch errors before they reach leadership, and improve the speed and consistency of deliverables.

What You Will Do As A Finance Manager

  • A collaborative onboarding period working side by side with the Finance Manager on treaties, capital, and risk management insurance.
  • High visibility with senior leadership and external partners.
  • A real opportunity to grow your scope, including leading Reinsurance or sharing a growing Capital and Risk Management portfolio as the function expands.

What You Will Bring As A Finance Manager

  • Strong understanding of reinsurance arrangements and their impact on surplus, RBC, and risk management.
  • Strong capital modeling and advanced Excel skills.
  • Knowledge of US STAT and GAAP reporting standards.
  • Hands-on experience using AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT, or similar) for real work such as analysis, modeling, or process automation. Using AI in day-to-day work is an expected part of this role.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Able to effectively and diplomatically interface with all levels of management and personnel.
  • Must have the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve business results.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and perform well under tight deadlines.
  • Team oriented, building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.
  • Receptive to feedback and willing to learn, embracing continuous improvement.

EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE, LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS

  • 7+ years of experience in reinsurance, insurance capital management, or related finance roles. Experience at a reinsurance broker, reinsurer, or P&C insurance carrier is highly valued.
  • Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
