Backed by New Mountain Capital, Portage Point is recognized for accelerated growth and is consistently featured in rankings from Inc. 5000, The Financial Times and Consulting Magazine. This recognition is a testament to our focus on excellence, intensity and pace and ability to attract blue chip talent committed to delivering best-in-class outcomes. Our cross-functional platform spans the full business lifecycle and offers middle market clients integrated solutions across Transaction Advisory Services (TAS), Valuations (VAL), Transaction Execution Services (TES), Office of the CFO (OCFO), Performance Improvement (PI), Interim Management (IM), Investment Banking (IB) and Turnaround & Restructuring Services (TRS).

The Managing Director, Capital Advisory role at Portage Point represents a unique opportunity to assume a wide range of responsibilities and make a significant impact. The Managing Director will report directly to the Head of Investment Banking and be responsible for developing new and existing client relationships, leading complex capital raising engagements (including leveraged buyouts, acquisition financings, refinancings, recapitalizations, growth capital and liquidity financings) and ensuring every engagement is delivered with the highest quality and impact. This person will lead key initiatives, manage discrete workstreams and work closely with senior leaders. If you thrive in a high-performance culture and want to help build the future of a rapidly growing advisory firm, this is the right role for you.

  • Manage investors throughout the capital raising process, including overseeing their diligence
  • Direct research and analysis in support of thematic publications and new business generation

  • Provide coaching and mentorship to junior team members
  • Lead internal trainings and best practice sharing
  • Lead business development and client relationship efforts
  • Lead talent acquisition and firm-building initiatives
  • Contribute to a high-performing, inclusive and values-driven culture

Qualifications

  • Located in or willing to relocate to Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, Nashville, New York, Palm Beach or Philadelphia
  • Invested in a team-based culture, motivated to collaborate in office four days per week
  • 15+ years of investment banking and/or lending experience, with a focus on raising capital in connection with, among other things, leveraged buyouts, acquisitions, refinancings, recapitalizations, growth and liquidity financings or secondaries and continuation vehicles, in each case, ideally focused on the middle market
  • Track record of successfully executing debt, equity or hybrid financings through changing market conditions and cycles, with experience advising privately held and sponsor-backed businesses
  • Commanding knowledge of current market terms and trends, with deep relationships across private and public lending institutions, including commercial banks, private and public debt funds and equity capital providers
  • Maintains Series 79 and 63 FINRA licenses or must obtain within 120 days of employment
  • Expert in project management and client-facing activities, including leading client presentations and business development meetings, developing work plans, supervising teams and coordinating with internal and external service providers
  • Direct experience in client and engagement development, negotiating and selling, and leading engagement teams, with a demonstrated ability to consistently develop new business across a network of corporate relationships, private equity sponsors, lenders and lawyers
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills, including executive-ready presentation and reporting skills
  • Proven ability to thrive in lean, fast-moving teams
  • High attention to detail, responsiveness and ownership mindset

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
