The posting

Position Summary

The Project Management Intern supports the safe, efficient, and profitable delivery of electrical construction projects while learning how work moves from estimate and preconstruction through field execution, billing, closeout, and customer follow-up. Working alongside Project Managers, project support team members, field leaders, Estimating, VDC, Prefabrication, Safety, and other partners, the intern assists with project documentation, planning, coordination, material and vendor follow-up, cost awareness, and communication.

The internship is designed to provide meaningful project ownership at an appropriate level while building the technical, business, and professional skills needed for an early-career role within Pieper.

  • Complete required safety orientation and follow all company, customer, and jobsite requirements.
  • Participate in jobsite walks, pre-planning discussions, and hazard-recognition activities with supervision.
  • Promote open communication between field and office teams regarding safety concerns, required information, and work-planning needs.
  • Observe how safety, quality, schedule, productivity, and cost decisions affect one another during project execution.

Project Documentation and Coordination:

  • Help obtain, organize, and maintain drawings, specifications, addenda, submittals, RFIs, meeting notes, correspondence, schedules, and other project records.
  • Assist with project startup, estimating handoff, document control, routine reporting, and coordination of defined action items.
  • Support permits, inspections, utility-locate requests, site access needs, and other project-specific requirements as assigned.
  • Track job activity, including materials, equipment, resources, deadlines, and open items; communicate status and potential issues promptly.

Preconstruction and Technical Planning:

  • Support basic quantity takeoffs, bid-package preparation, scope review, and comparison of plans, specifications, and addenda.
  • Learn how Estimating, design, layout, VDC/BIM, prefabrication, Trimble/Total Station, scheduling, and operations planning support field installation.
  • Assist with coordination of design, layout, assembly details, prefabrication documentation, and project planning tasks as appropriate to the assignment.
  • Help prepare for project kickoff and participate in the transition of project information from estimating to operations.

Planning, Scheduling, and Resource Support:

  • Participate in weekly planning and project meetings; document decisions, owners, deadlines, and follow-up items.
  • Update approved trackers and schedules and help identify constraints that may affect safety, productivity, quality, cost, or completion dates.
  • Support coordination of materials, tools, equipment, information, and internal resources needed by the project team and field.
  • Learn how Project Managers forecast work, monitor progress, and adjust plans based on project conditions.

Materials, Vendors, and Project Controls:

  • Request and organize vendor or subcontractor information and quotes as directed; support purchase-order and material-tracking processes within assigned authority.
  • Compile information for material purchases, submittals, delivery coordination, and operation and maintenance manuals.
  • Assist with approved cost coding, expense tracking, billing documentation, change-order logs, and other project-control activities.
  • Develop an understanding of budget, committed cost, labor productivity, forecast, billing, collections, cash flow, and project profitability without independently approving transactions.

Communication, Service, and Team Collaboration:

  • Communicate professionally with project managers, field leaders, craftspeople, customers, vendors, and internal partners.
  • Prepare clear meeting notes, status updates, reports, presentations, and project correspondence for review.
  • Provide timely, accurate service and escalate questions, conflicts, customer concerns, and project risks to the appropriate leader.
  • Seek feedback, demonstrate curiosity, protect confidential information, and contribute ideas that improve team coordination and project outcomes.

Closeout and Continuous Improvement:

  • Assist with punch-list tracking, as-built documentation, operation and maintenance manuals, warranty information, final billing support, and closeout packages.
  • Help confirm that required project records are complete, accurate, organized, and transferred or archived appropriately.
  • Participate in lessons-learned discussions and complete an internship capstone that recommends or demonstrates a practical project improvement.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing an associate or bachelor’s degree in construction management, Construction Science, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Building Science, Business, or a related field; equivalent technical education or relevant experience may be considered.
  • Interest in electrical construction, project management, estimating, engineering, or field operations.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams; willingness to learn company project systems and technical tools.
  • Ability to travel locally to project sites and work in both office and active construction environments, as the assignment requires.

Core Skills and Behaviors

  • Positive safety attitude and personal integrity - both are non-negotiable.
  • Curiosity, initiative, accountability, and willingness to ask questions and apply feedback.
  • Clear verbal and written communication with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to organize multiple priorities, maintain accurate records, and meet deadlines.
  • Respectful, service-oriented approach when working with field and office employees, customers, and vendors.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

The internship includes office and jobsite work. Office responsibilities may require extended periods of sitting, standing, and computer use. Jobsite visits may involve walking or standing for extended periods, stairs or uneven surfaces, outdoor conditions, noise, and required personal protective equipment. Reasonable accommodation may be made for qualified individuals.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
