About the Role
Based in East Liberty, the director will report to executive leadership and serve on the organization's leadership team. The position combines planning, budgeting, project management, and staff leadership with the ability to step in on maintenance needs when necessary.
Approximately 80% of the role involves office, administrative, and leadership responsibilities, with 20% focused on hands-on maintenance. Travel to local sites and occasional travel to Mercer are required, along with participation in a shared emergency on-call rotation supporting residential programs that operate around the clock.

- Oversee maintenance, repairs, grounds, and building operations across multiple locations.
- Develop preventive maintenance programs and long-term capital improvement plans.
- Manage concurrent construction and renovation projects, including projects with budgets up to approximately $500,000.
- Obtain and evaluate bids, negotiate pricing, manage vendor contracts, and monitor project quality, costs, and timelines.
- Partner with finance and executive leadership to develop and manage departmental budgets.
- Determine when work should be handled internally or assigned to outside contractors.
- Oversee facility inspections, audits, and compliance with applicable building codes, OSHA standards, and other requirements.
- Develop policies and procedures for maintenance, safety, security, emergency preparedness, and fleet operations.
- Track maintenance completion, work-order efficiency, safety compliance, and budget performance.
- Coordinate fleet needs, including leases, registrations, insurance, claims, and vehicle safety.
- Establish an effective emergency on-call strategy and investigate critical maintenance issues.
- Co-chair the Health and Safety Committee and collaborate with program leaders across the organization.
Qualifications
- Associate degree in a related field and at least three years of relevant experience, or a high school diploma or equivalent and at least five years of relevant experience.
- Hands-on maintenance and construction experience, with the technical knowledge to assess repairs, evaluate contractor recommendations, and support the team.
- Experience managing facilities projects, vendor relationships, budgets, and staff.
- Knowledge of preventive maintenance, capital planning, procurement, and contract administration.
- Familiarity with OSHA standards, building codes, and facility safety requirements.
- Strong computer, organizational, and communication skills.
- A practical, cost-conscious approach and the ability to manage competing priorities independently.
- A calm, respectful leadership style and the ability to work professionally in residential settings serving at-risk youth.
- Availability for site visits and shared after-hours emergency coverage.
