ABOUT PRIMARY

Primary is a seed-stage venture capital firm dedicated to delivering exceptional support to the founders of transformational businesses. By pairing meaningful investment resources with the largest portfolio impact team of any seed investor, our portfolio companies have reached an industry-best seed-to-A graduation rate.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Primary is hiring a Community & Content Manager focused on Compute to grow the audience and community around The Compute 100 among the founders, engineers, researchers and investors who are shaping this field.

The Compute 100 https://www.thecompute100.com/ is Primary’s platform for the people and companies building the infrastructure of AI. This role sits on the marketing team and works directly with our Compute investment pod, with a particular focus on its San Francisco initiatives.

The job is to take what The Compute 100 already is and maximize its impact: deepen and accelerate the content, grow the right audience, and expand where we show up on the ground with the communities that matter. The goal is to make The Compute 100 a staple in the world of compute.

We are looking for someone with genuine subject-matter fluency and curiosity across AI infrastructure generally and compute specifically. You stay close to how this world is evolving, then turn that knowledge into action. You can identify a conversation worth having, develop the content around it, and bring the right people into the room.

You will own the tactics. Plan the dinners. Find the venues. Build the communications and production timelines. Turn a dinner into a gathering people want to be part of. Identify the communities worth showing up for and make sure Primary shows up with something valuable to contribute.

This role is based in San Francisco and expected to work in office at least 3 days a week.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

- Stay actively engaged in AI infrastructure and compute. Track new companies, investments, technical shifts, thought pieces, and the conversations shaping the category.

- Write and ship social and editorial content across X, LinkedIn, and newsletter-style formats that grows Compute 100 among the right audience.

- Turn partner conversations, portfolio developments, podcast discussions, and events into sharp content across multiple formats and channels.

- Develop quick, informed perspectives on what is happening in the market, what is missing from the conversation, and where The Compute 100 can add something useful.

- Coordinate production details and schedules around The Compute 100’s podcast efforts, including concept development, guest sourcing, editorial preparation, asset dissemination and promotion. You will not own video production or editing.

- Plan and run in-person events throughout the Bay Area, including dinners, salons, and meetups. Own the guest list, venue, communications plan, production timeline, run of show, and follow-up.

- Build active relationships with the founders, engineers, researchers, investors, and communities shaping compute in San Francisco.

- Recommend where Primary should show up, then own how we show up.

- Build and maintain the content and event calendars, managing the dependencies between the two and keeping every workstream moving.

- Partner with the broader marketing team on firm-wide messaging and with the Compute pod on positioning, narrative, and community strategy.

WHAT YOU BRING

- 2-3+ years of experience across content, editorial, community, or events, ideally at a media company, technology platform, venture firm, or startup.

- Genuine fluency in and curiosity about AI infrastructure and compute. You are already sleuthing through X, tracking investments, reading the thought pieces, and paying attention to how this world is evolving.

- An active network of builders, thinkers, and doers in San Francisco, along with the energy to keep expanding it.

- Strong writing and editorial instincts. You can consume a large amount of information, separate signal from noise, and shape a clear perspective quickly.

- Experience building audiences through individual-creator and new-media channels, including X, newsletters, and podcasts.

- Experience planning and running in-person events from concept through follow-up.

- The ability to move comfortably between strategic recommendations and tactical activation. You can identify where we should show up and then make it happen.

- Exceptional organization. You build communications plans, manage production timelines, track dependencies, and make sure details do not get lost.

- Comfort operating without an existing playbook. This is Primary’s first dedicated hire focused on building its San Francisco Compute community.

- Active, hands-on use of AI tools across your content, research, and planning workflows.

- Speed, curiosity, resourcefulness, and a bias toward action. You are eager to learn, quick to move, and someone who gets things done.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
