Location: Maple Grove, MN

Reports To: Software Engineering Manager / Software Development Manager

Employment Type: Full Time

Job Requisition ID: 226-969

Requisition Begin Date: 10/1/2026

Role Overview

At ProAg, we're looking for a Lead Software Engineer who can bridge the gap between business strategy and technology execution. In this role, you'll partner with product, business, and engineering teams to transform complex challenges into scalable, impactful solutions while providing technical leadership throughout the software development lifecycle. You'll help shape technical direction, evaluate solution options and tradeoffs, and guide teams toward secure, reliable, and maintainable outcomes that deliver meaningful business value. This is an ideal opportunity for a strategic problem-solver who enjoys understanding the "why" behind the work and influencing how technology can drive business success.

ProAg follows a 4:1 hybrid schedule. Monday – Thursday is in office, with Friday being remote.

In this Exciting Opportunity, You Will:

  • Partner with Product Owners, Business Analysts, stakeholders, and engineers to understand the problem behind a request and clarify the desired business outcome.
  • Translate business needs into practical technical approaches, identifying options, tradeoffs, risks, assumptions, and dependencies.
  • Provide Level of Effort estimates (sizings), document risks and assumptions, and create prototypes or proof-of-concepts when needed to reduce uncertainty.
  • Design your Scrum team's technical solutions and guide implementation toward solutions that are effective, supportable, secure, and aligned with ProAg's technology direction.
  • Lead technical discussions and decisions within the team, knowing when broader alignment with Solution Architecture or other engineering teams as needed.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences and build alignment around recommended approaches.
  • Work with DevOps to release and operate the team's products successfully across environments.
  • Use engineering standards, development practices, monitoring, and operational data to improve quality, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, eliminate unnecessary complexity, and use technology - including AI and other emerging capabilities - to increase effectiveness and productivity.
  • Help the Scrum team deliver value predictably while keeping sight of the broader product and business objectives.

What You Bring

  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science, a related field, or equivalent education and/or experience
  • A strong technical understanding of C#, .NET, and React
  • Strong expertise in modern application architecture, APIs, databases, cloud technologies, and software engineering best practices
  • Ability to provide technical leadership, influence decisions, and guide teams toward effective solutions
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to understand business processes and translate needs into technology solutions
  • Proven experience in software engineering and solutions development, with a track record of leading complex technical initiatives
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, including explaining technical concepts and tradeoffs to diverse audiences

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary and comprehensive benefit package
  • Strong learning culture with ongoing development opportunities
  • Opportunities for growth and career advancement
  • Comprehensive medical, vision, and dental coverage, with eligibility beginning on your first day of employment
  • Basic life and disability insurance
  • 401(k) plan with 6% company match
  • 20 days of PTO, three floating holidays, approximately 10 paid holidays, and volunteer time off
  • Paid parental leave
  • Access to our award-winning wellness program, including mental health services, fitness network membership, and a complimentary Headspace subscription
  • Student loan matching program
  • Employee discount program
  • An opportunity to do meaningful work and love what you do

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
