Title: Peer Specialist Program: Renewal House – Bronx, NY Salary Range: $20.08/hour Program Description: Renewal House provides permanent housing to 25 individuals who have a history of substance use disorders. Renewal House is funded by OASAS and works to provide clients with skills that will support them with integration into the community. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The essential duties of the Peer Specialist include but are not limited to the following activities: Program Activities and Client Engagement
Organize, lead, and promote recreational activities, including arts and crafts, sports, games, on-site tournaments, and other population-focused leisure activities. Meet regularly with clients to understand their interests and develop activities that support participation and engagement. Manage the daily recreational schedule and ensure activities are coordinated effectively. Welcome new clients, introduce them to the recreational program, and encourage participation. Escort clients to recreational activities, relevant events, and identified appointments as needed. Encourage clients to attend house meetings, support groups, and recreational activities, while supporting their efforts toward participation.
Documentation and Administrative Responsibilities
Complete and maintain time and attendance forms. Document client participation in recreational activities in client case records.
Collaboration and Team Participation
Collaborate with agency personnel, community organizations, the NYC Parks Department, and other professionals to plan balanced recreational programs for participants. Participate with the social services team and attend meetings as required. Communicate with the social services team regarding client concerns, progress, and support needs. Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director.
Physical Activities While performing the duties of this position, the Recreation Specialist must be able to navigate the facility on foot, climbing up and down the stairwells, in order to observe staff and clients. The Recreation Specialist must be able to lift or move material and equipment weighing up to 15 pounds. Qualifications:
A High School Diploma or GED equivalent with one (1) year of experience Bilingual or multilingual a plus

Communication: Strong oral, written, and active listening skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with clients and staff. Organization and Time Management: Ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and support both short-term tasks and long-term program goals in a fast-paced environment. Interpersonal Skills: Ability to build respectful, supportive relationships with clients while working effectively with staff at all levels. Computer Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with case management software (AWARDS).
