About Proton

Join Proton and build a better internet where privacy is the default

Proton was founded in 2014 by scientists from CERN on a simple truth: privacy is a fundamental human right. Since then, we’ve built the world’s largest encrypted email service (Proton Mail) and expanded into Proton VPN, Proton Drive, Proton Pass, and Proton Calendar—tools used by millions globally to protect their freedom, fight censorship, and keep their data safe. In some situations, Proton has literally helped save lives!

We are profitable, independent (no VC control), and selectively hire from the top ~1% of applicants. Our 500+ team members across 50+ countries come from leading organizations and elite academic backgrounds. We move fast, keep hierarchy light, and prioritize impact over optics. If you want to do meaningful work with exceptionally high-caliber people, this is it. Join us and do work you can truly be proud of. Check our open-source projects here!

The team

We believe in small empowered teams that focus on delivering large impact. This requires strong engineers with product engineering mindset who can collaborate well, take ownership, and do whatever is needed to achieve our ambitious goals. Join a global team to shape Proton Meet, which was launched in March 2026 to provide free encrypted video calls for all.

What you will do

You will be responsible for the operational excellence of Proton Meet, which must run reliably 24/7 and scale with increasing traffic and complexity. You will work on research, development, load testing, and rollout of new services and infrastructure. You will work with SWE's to make sure systems have proper logging, monitoring, alerting, and on-call's. You must be great at debugging and figuring out problems that inevitably come up in production.

Job requirements

  • Deep experience with Linux systems and Internet technologies (DNS, TLS, HTTP, WebSockets)
  • Deep experience with infrastructure automation (Puppet, Terraform, Kubernetes)
  • Experience managing load balancing (HAProxy), data storage (PostgreSQL) and messaging systems (NATS)
  • Experience with AI agents for coding, incident response, and stress testing
  • Able to operate in a fast environment with teammates in other continents and take on-call's
  • Excellent English communications, both written and spoken
  • Bonus for experience with WebRTC and real-time streaming

What We Offer

  • Office First: Collaboration is easier and more effective in person, which is why we have offices in Geneva, Zurich, Prague, Barcelona, Paris, London, Vilnius, Skopje, and Taipei. You can also enjoy working from home up to 30% of the time, while enjoying great company during our three core days in the office.
  • Technology: We provide all the devices and software you need to excel in your role, ensuring you have the best tools at your disposal to achieve your goals.
  • Food: Lunch and snacks are provided by Proton every day at our offices.
  • Transport: We will always support our employees with transport costs through subsidizing public transport, bike allowances, or parking spaces based on your office location.

  • Learning and Development: We are committed to your professional growth. Proton offers various learning opportunities, including training programs, conferences and events, and continual learning.
  • Employee Benefits: Comprehensive health insurance plans, competitive retirement savings options, generous vacation and leave policies, and wellness programs.
  • Work that Matters: Proton is a community-first organization, started with the support of a crowdfunding campaign and built with community input. To this day, Proton’s only source of revenue is user subscriptions. Over 100 million people trust and support Proton, and we put our users and community first in everything we do. Our Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion

At Proton, we believe diversity drives innovation and strengthens our mission to provide privacy as a default for all. We are committed to fostering an inclusive environment where all individuals, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, age, sexual orientation, physical ability, or socio-economic background, feel valued and empowered. We strive to create equal opportunities, promote open dialogue, and support continuous learning to ensure every voice is heard and respected.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.

What if my background isn't good enough?

We make the most of the background you have. The CV uses every piece of relevant proof your profile holds, and one of the 25 readers reads your whole profile and flags what the CV left out.

Do you really apply for me?

Yes, on the employer's own form, the hardest ones included. Where a question needs you, you answer it right there and AI suggests the best answer. Don't want us applying from our IP addresses? Use our Chrome extension: we apply straight from your own browser.

Is it a subscription?

No. You pay once per CV, from $25. Every application goes out with its own CV, written for that posting.
