POSITION: Mechanic I (12 months)

SALARY: GRADE 59 - $2,879.98 monthly – Starting Salary

DEADLINE DATE FOR RECEIVING APPLICATIONS: Until Filled

WORK LOCATION: Transportation Department

REPORTS TO: Director of Transportation

GENERAL DUTIES:

  • Ability to locate and diagnose minor and frequently occurring mechanical problems.
  • Ability to repair and replace damaged parts of vehicles bodies using acetylene or electric welding equipment as well as other repair equipment.
  • Ability to remove, replace and reassemble transmissions, clutches, fuel, oil and water pumps, generators and other parts of the motor block and suspension.
  • Ability to fill fuel trucks and add or change oil and filters.
  • Any other duties and responsibilities that are assigned by the Mechanic Foreman, Mechanic II or Director.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A high school diploma.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver’s License Class A or B endorsements P & S within the first 3 months of employment.
  • Obtain and maintain NC DPI School Bus Inspection License within the first year of employment.
  • Three years of experience in the repair and maintenance of automotive equipment.
  • Technical training in automotive equipment preferred.
