Engineering Services Group, Engineering Services Group > Engineering Operations

General Summary:

The Staff Engineering Operations Manager leads Americas lab planning and strategy and converts complex engineering demand into an actionable portfolio plan. The role owns the integrated planning rhythm for Americas labs, from demand intake and analysis through solution recommendations, governance, and execution-ready handoffs. The position combines strategic planning, cross-functional leadership, data-driven decision support, and line management to help ensure the right lab space is available at the right time and in the right location.

The role is accountable for requirements gathering, planning, analysis, recommendations, governance, and orchestration across the Americas lab portfolio. Execution transfers to partner organizations at defined milestones, supported by clear requirements, ownership, and handoff criteria.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

· Build and maintain a credible Americas lab portfolio.

· Consolidate engineering demand, historical demand patterns, capacity outlooks, utilization, and infrastructure constraints into an integrated planning view.

· Develop site-fit options, portfolio recommendations, and clear tradeoffs for leadership decisions.

· Identify and communicate capacity, infrastructure, location, and timing risks early enough to support proactive action.

· Balance near-term delivery requirements with long-range portfolio health and utilization.

· Provide line management for the Eng Ops Manager and Staff Eng Ops Analyst, including goal setting, work prioritization, coaching, performance feedback, and capability development.

· Lead structured intake and planning reviews that clarify demand, urgency, priorities, constraints, assumptions, and decision points.

· Align requirements, responsibilities, and execution handoffs with QREF, ETO, Engineering, IT, and regional planning teams.

· Surface decisions, dependencies, tradeoffs, and ownership gaps, and drive clear follow-through across stakeholders.

· Translate demand, capacity, utilization, infrastructure, and portfolio-risk data into decision-ready materials.

· Develop dashboards, analytical tools, and repeatable data models that provide reliable visibility into demand, capacity, utilization, infrastructure constraints, and portfolio risk.

· Establish consistent planning methods, metrics, data definitions, reporting standards, and review cadence.

· Prepare and support decision inputs for LRC and EIC forums.

· Use metrics and recurring portfolio reviews to strengthen utilization, visibility, accountability, and planning discipline.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree and 9+ years of Engineering Operations or related work experience. OR Associate's degree and 11+ years of Engineering Operations or related work experience. OR High School Diploma or equivalent and 13+ years of Engineering Operations or related work experience.

*Completed advanced degrees in a relevant field may be substituted for up to two years (Master’s = one year, Doctorate = two years) of work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's degree in Business, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field.

• 11+ years experience in engineering operations, lab planning, infrastructure planning, technical program management, analytics, portfolio planning, or a closely related technical planning discipline.

• Experience leading and developing team members through goal setting, coaching, prioritization, and constructive performance feedback.

· Experience coordinating work across engineering, facilities, infrastructure, IT, and regional planning interfaces.

· Experience developing site-fit analyses, portfolio scenarios, and investment recommendations.

· Experience establishing governance routines, planning standards, metrics, dashboards, and quarterly portfolio reporting.

· Ability to influence across organizations without relying solely on direct authority while maintaining a portfolio-level perspective.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
