Summary of the Director, Engineering

The Director of Engineering is a senior technical and people leader responsible for the architecture, design, and delivery of Qualifacts’ enterprise services. This role sets the technical vision, raises the bar for engineering excellence, and builds high-performing architecture and development teams.

Responsibilities for the Director, Engineering

  • Define and evolve the enterprise architecture vision, standards, and guidelines for services and applications; mentor architects, tech leads, and engineering managers to uphold and advance them
  • Lead and inspire cross-functional engineering teams in close partnership with QA, Product Management, DevOps, and Infrastructure leaders to deliver high-quality software on predictable timelines
  • Establish and enforce a high bar for non-functional requirements (scalability, performance, security, reliability, observability) and ensure best practices are consistently applied
  • Own delivery excellence: drive continuous improvements in quality, velocity, and efficiency while reliably meeting commitments
  • Communicate goals, priorities, responsibilities, and progress clearly and objectively across technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Ensure adherence to (and continuous improvement of) internal design, coding, documentation, and architectural standards
  • Define, track, and act on KPIs that reflect team health, delivery performance, and technical quality.
  • Identify opportunities to modernize platforms, processes, and tooling; sponsor and lead organizational improvements

Qualifications of the Director, Engineering

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience)
  • 7+ years of progressive leadership experience managing software architecture and development teams on large-scale systems and digital transformation initiatives
  • 15+ years of hands-on experience designing and building scalable web and mobile software solutions
  • Proven experience applying Model-Driven Development (MDD) and Domain-Driven Design (DDD) in structured delivery environments
  • Strong background building containerized microservices (.NET Core) and serverless applications (e.g., AWS Lambda)
  • Hands-on experience with modern DevOps toolchains (Jenkins, Azure DevOps, CircleCI, or equivalent)
  • Experience with application monitoring and logging platforms (ELK stack, New Relic, Splunk, or similar)

Preferred Qualifications of the Director, Engineering

  • Experience with healthcare interoperability standards (HL7 or FHIR strongly preferred)
  • Prior success modernizing monolithic or legacy systems into cloud-native, microservices-based architectures, preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to influence product and platform roadmaps through technical insight, preferred

What Success Looks Like for the Director, Engineering

  • Enterprise services and applications are architecturally sound, highly reliable, and continuously improving
  • Engineering teams consistently deliver high-quality work with strong predictability and healthy velocity
  • Architecture and coding standards are actively maintained and elevated by the organization
  • Strong partnership and trust exist across Product, QA, DevOps, and Infrastructure
  • Engineering talent is growing in capability and engagement under your leadership

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
