Position overview

The Director, Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) will play a critical role in leading RTV’s forward-looking finance function and serving as a strategic partner to the CFO, executive leadership, country teams, and functional leaders. The Director will own enterprise planning, rolling forecasts, performance analysis, scenario modelling, and decision support, translating financial and operational data into clear choices, risks, and actions.

As one of three finance pillars reporting to the CFO, the Global FP&A function provides a forward-looking planning and performance perspective alongside Controllership and Accounting. The Director will lead this function and establish consistent planning disciplines, management reporting, and business-partnering practices across the organization.

Key responsibilities

Enterprise Planning, Forecasting & Scenario Analysis

  • Own the annual consolidated budget, rolling forecast, multi-year plan, and in-year reforecasting cycles across countries, departments, programs, and funding sources.
  • Develop integrated financial and operational planning models that connect program reach, cost per beneficiary, staffing, capital requirements, funding, and cash needs.
  • Lead scenario and sensitivity analysis to assess growth options, funding gaps, foreign exchange exposure, cost pressures, and strategic trade-offs.
  • Maintain clear planning assumptions, version control, decision logs, and reconciliations to approved organizational targets.

Performance Management & Executive Insight

  • Own the budget and KPI performance-management process, including setting review standards, monitoring results against approved targets, and driving accountability for corrective actions;
  • Lead quarterly performance reviews at the executive and country levels.
  • Translate results into concise commentary on drivers, variances, risks, opportunities, and corrective actions.
  • Develop and maintain an enterprise performance framework that integrates financial and non-financial indicators.
  • Prepare CFO, executive leadership, Board, and Finance/Audit/Risk Committee materials with decision-focused analysis and transparent supporting logic.

Strategic Business Partnering

  • Act as the senior finance partner to organisational leaders, constructively challenging assumptions and improving the financial quality of decisions.
  • Support business cases, program design, workforce planning, country expansion, investment decisions, and resource allocation.
  • Partner with Programs, Partnerships, People, IT, Procurement, and country leadership to connect strategy, delivery plans, and financial capacity.
  • Provide financial modelling and analysis for donor proposals, cost recovery, funding sustainability, and restricted versus unrestricted resource decisions.

Cash, Funding & Sustainability Planning

  • Lead forward-looking liquidity and cash flow forecasting in partnership with Accounting and Controllership, with clear visibility over restricted and unrestricted cash and reserve requirements.
  • Maintain funding-gap and runway analysis, identifying timing, concentration, and affordability risks for leadership action.
  • Ensure planning outputs reconcile to the general ledger, grant records, treasury forecasts, and approved budgets, while preserving appropriate separation between planning and accounting ownership.

Data, Systems & Process Improvement

  • Own the FP&A reporting and analytics roadmap, including dashboards, planning models, data definitions, and management-reporting standards.
  • Advance the effective use of ERP (Sage Intacct/ Dynamics Business central are a plus), Power BI, Excel, and other planning or analytics tools; support finance-system integration and ERP improvement initiatives.
  • Improve forecast accuracy, cycle times, data quality, and self-service reporting through standardization, automation, and clear controls.
  • Establish a single source of truth for management reporting and ensure consistent treatment of currencies, allocations, beneficiaries, and program cost drivers.

Team Leadership & Capability Building

  • Lead, coach, and develop the East Africa FP&A team, setting clear accountability, service standards, and development plans.
  • Build FP&A and financial literacy across budget owners through practical training, templates, guidance, and ongoing coaching.
  • Promote a high-performance culture grounded in collaboration, curiosity, accountability, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
  • Create resilient processes with appropriate documentation, cross-training, succession planning, and coverage for key activities.

Governance, Risk & Collaboration

  • Partner with the Controller and Accounting Manager to maintain a clear operating model across planning, technical accounting, controls, reporting, treasury, and country finance support.
  • Ensure forecasts and management reports comply with internal policies, delegated authorities, donor requirements, and approved planning methodologies.
  • Support audits, risk reviews, and special projects by providing complete, traceable, and decision-useful analysis.
  • Perform other duties and strategic finance projects as assigned by the CFO.

Qualifications and Experience

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or a related field; an MBA or relevant master’s degree is an asset.
  • CPA, CA, CMA, ACCA, CFA, or equivalent professional designation is strongly preferred.
  • At least 10 years of progressive finance experience, including significant FP&A, business partnering, and people-leadership responsibility.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience leading complex, multi-entity budgeting, forecasting, scenario analysis, and executive performance reporting.
  • Experience in an international non-profit, charity, development, or donor-funded environment is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with multi-country and multi-currency operations, restricted funds, cost allocation, and funding-sustainability analysis.
  • Advanced Excel and financial-modelling capability; strong proficiency with Power BI and modern ERP or financial-management systems. Sage Intacct experience is an asset.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
