About the Role

We are looking for an Optical Thin Film Engineer to join our precision manufacturing team. In this role, you will take charge of coating designs, fine-tune daily deposition runs, and work closely with production to keep yields high and processes reliable. You will also help train operators on the floor and step in whenever technical troubleshooting is needed.

What You Will Do

  • Create coating designs tailored to both customer requests and internal performance targets.
  • Build and refine deposition workflows to cut scrap, boost throughput, and keep production runs cost-effective.
  • Adjust chamber setups, tooling, and parameters to ensure clean, consistent film layers across runs.
  • Serve as the go-to technical resource on the floor to troubleshoot chamber drift, run failures, or process instability.
  • Keep clean, up-to-date documentation on run recipes, work instructions, and design changes.
  • Share regular updates on current project milestones and operational issues with engineering leads.
  • Coach and guide shop-floor operators on correct handling and operational protocols for coating equipment.
  • Support wider engineering and production initiatives as operational needs evolve.

Requirements

  • A degree in Physics, Materials Science, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in precision optics, vacuum processing, semiconductor, or solar manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with industry-standard design tools such as Essential Macleod, OptiLayer, TFCalc, or FilmStar.
  • A practical, problem-solving mindset with the ability to diagnose process deviations on your own.
  • Hands-on familiarity with common deposition methods such as E-beam, thermal evaporation, ion-assisted deposition (IAD), or sputtering.
