Make a real difference in your community

Join our team at Waythrough and support people facing challenges around mental health, substance use, housing or domestic abuse. This is more than just a job – it’s a chance to build meaningful relationships and create lasting change.

About the Role

We’re excited to offer a 12-month fixed-term opportunity for a Recovery Coordinator to join our East Durham team.

This is a dynamic and rewarding role where you’ll support adults affected by drug and alcohol use throughout their treatment and recovery journey.

You’ll manage your own caseload, creating, implementing and reviewing personalised recovery and treatment plans, while building meaningful and trusting relationships with the people we support.

You’ll work with individuals at different stages of their recovery journey – from initial engagement and assessment, through structured treatment, to exiting treatment and accessing sustained recovery and aftercare.

You’ll play an important role in helping people reduce substance-related harm and make positive, sustainable changes in their lives, while also contributing to safer and healthier communities.

Working as part of our East Durham team, you’ll collaborate with colleagues and partner agencies to provide person-centred, coordinated support that reflects the individual needs and goals of each person.

Every day brings new challenges, rewarding conversations and the opportunity to make a genuine difference.

What You’ll Do

  • Manage a caseload, creating, implementing and reviewing ongoing recovery and treatment plans.
  • Support individuals to progress from initial engagement into structured treatment.
  • Complete assessments and identify individual needs, strengths, goals and areas of risk.
  • Support people throughout their treatment journey, from initial assessment through to exiting treatment, sustained recovery and aftercare.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships that encourage engagement and promote lasting recovery.
  • Provide person-centred support and interventions based on individual needs and recovery goals.
  • Contribute to reducing substance-related harm to individuals and the wider community.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, partner agencies and other professionals to ensure people receive coordinated and appropriate support.
  • Help individuals access appropriate health, wellbeing, housing, employment, family and community resources.
  • Identify and respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns, risk and changes in presentation, escalating where required.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records in line with service and organisational requirements.
  • Support individuals to develop practical strategies that promote independence, wellbeing and sustained recovery.
  • Encourage individuals to recognise their strengths, build resilience and work towards their own recovery goals.
  • Contribute to a positive, supportive and inclusive team environment.
  • Work flexibly in response to the needs of the people we support and the wider service.

What You’ll Bring

We’re looking for someone who is compassionate, motivated and passionate about helping people achieve meaningful change.

You’ll ideally have some experience of working with vulnerable adults, alongside an understanding of the challenges faced by people affected by drug and/or alcohol use.

You’ll also bring:

  • A genuine interest in being part of Waythrough’s mission and vision.
  • Experience of working or volunteering with adults at risk, particularly in relation to drug and/or alcohol use.
  • A passion for helping others and supporting people to make positive changes.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • The ability to build trusting relationships with people who may have complex needs.
  • A compassionate, non-judgemental and person-centred approach.
  • The ability to manage your own caseload and work effectively both independently and as part of a wider team.
  • The ability to recognise and respond appropriately to risk and safeguarding concerns.
  • A commitment to promoting dignity, respect, choice and independence.

A driving licence is preferred but not essential.

Most importantly, we’re looking for someone who genuinely wants to make a difference someone who can see the person beyond their circumstances and support them to make positive, sustainable changes in their lives.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
