The posting

A public hospital is looking for a Clinical Coder to interpret medical records and assign accurate DRG codes for inpatient and day surgery discharges. You will work with clinicians and the coding team to keep submissions accurate and on time.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Interpret medical records and perform DRG coding for inpatient discharges
  • Code day surgery, dental and endoscopy procedures accurately
  • Meet turnaround time targets for casemix coding with high accuracy
  • Liaise with doctors and healthcare professionals to clarify unclear cases
  • Highlight incomplete or missing medical records required for coding
  • Provide DRG codes and clarifications to insurers and funding bodies when requested
  • Perform basic internal audits to maintain coding accuracy
  • Follow coding procedures and standards consistently
  • Support administrative functions in the department

What You'll Bring

  • Diploma or Degree in Health Information Management, Life Sciences, Nursing or a related discipline and above
  • Experience in clinical coding, medical records or casemix is preferred
  • Good understanding of medical terminology and procedures
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Able to meet turnaround time targets
  • Good communication skills for liaising with clinicians
  • Willing to complete a short assessment as part of the selection process
