About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Satellite Electrical Power System (EPS) Design Engineer to support the concept, detailed design, analysis, verification, and integration of electrical power subsystems for current and next-generation remote sensing and communications satellites.

The role focuses on the design and development of solar arrays, power-conditioning units, batteries, power distribution, and regulation systems, while working closely with multidisciplinary teams across payload, spacecraft bus, thermal, structural, avionics, and mission systems.

The successful candidate will contribute to the development of reliable, high-performance EPS solutions throughout the spacecraft lifecycle, from early architecture and trade studies through integration, launch, and on-orbit operations.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for a senior spacecraft electrical power systems engineer with strong experience designing and integrating EPS architectures for satellite platforms.

The ideal candidate can work across the full EPS lifecycle, from power architecture and trade studies through detailed design, modeling, verification, spacecraft integration, launch, and on-orbit support.

Strong candidates will combine deep power electronics and spacecraft EPS expertise with hands-on systems integration, analytical problem-solving, and the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities

Architecture & Requirements

  • Define EPS architectures covering power generation, energy storage, and distribution while meeting mission power, mass, volume, and reliability requirements.
  • Perform architecture and technology trade studies involving: Solar cell technologies Battery chemistries Regulator topologies
  • Develop system requirements and functional flow block diagrams.
  • Develop and maintain Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and design descriptions.
  • Manage requirements and maintain bidirectional traceability throughout the program lifecycle.

Detailed Design & Analysis

  • Size and evaluate: Solar arrays Power-conditioning units Battery packs Power distribution units
  • Build and validate high-fidelity electrical models for spacecraft operating modes.
  • Perform FMECA and fault-detection analysis.
  • Develop and maintain power budget models.
  • Perform load-flow and thermal-power coupling analyses.
  • Conduct survivability analyses for: Eclipse operations Safe mode Fault-tolerant operation
  • Analyze EPS performance across different spacecraft mission phases and operating conditions.

Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Present technical status, risk analyses, and trade-study results to senior management.
  • Interface with spacecraft bus teams across: Power Thermal Structures Avionics
  • Develop and maintain high-fidelity power models for mission analysis, including: Orbit raising Station keeping De-orbit
  • Develop tools supporting power efficiency and optimization.
  • Support Phase 0 and pre-Phase A activities.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams throughout the spacecraft lifecycle.

Integration & Verification

  • Author Verification Plans, Test Matrices, and Validation Procedures for unit and EPS subsystem testing.
  • Support ground-test and integration campaigns.
  • Support: Fueling activities Thermal-vacuum testing EMI/EMC testing Spacecraft-level integration
  • Analyze test data and support anomaly resolution.
  • Close out anomalies and update design baselines.
  • Support flight software integration.

Technical Leadership & Mentorship

  • Mentor and guide junior and intermediate systems engineers and interns.
  • Lead or support multidisciplinary engineering activities.
  • Serve as a technical liaison with customers, partners, and external vendors.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to engineering knowledge bases, processes, and standards development.

Configuration, Documentation & Standards

  • Maintain EPS design and safety standards.
  • Ensure engineering analyses, software, documentation, and deliverables are properly version controlled within the PLM environment.
  • Support spacecraft design reviews, including: SRR PDR CDR MRR/TRR
  • Support technology road-mapping and innovation activities.

Launch, On-Orbit & Operations Support

  • Support launch-site interface checklists with the responsible launch vehicle interface engineer.
  • Support pre-launch checkout procedures.
  • Support early-orbit checkout scripts.
  • Provide real-time EPS engineering support during: Launch On-orbit commissioning Anomaly investigations Contingency operations
  • Support Satellite Operations Handbook (SOOH) development and associated operator training.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of EPS system design experience on LEO/MEO satellite platforms.
  • Deep knowledge of spacecraft bus subsystems and their interactions.
  • Experience with power electronics design and power management hardware.
  • Strong understanding of aerospace systems engineering fundamentals.
  • Hands-on experience supporting systems integration and testing.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Experience with Confluence and JIRA.
  • Ability to work efficiently with limited supervision.
  • Ability to break down complex technical problems and develop practical solutions.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing EPS architectures for remote sensing or communications satellites.
  • Experience with solar array, battery, power-conditioning, and power-distribution systems.
  • Experience with high-fidelity spacecraft power modeling.
  • Experience with FMECA, fault detection, survivability analysis, and reliability engineering.
  • Experience supporting thermal-vacuum, EMI/EMC, and spacecraft-level integration testing.
  • Experience with mission-phase power analysis, including orbit raising, station keeping, eclipse, safe mode, and de-orbit.
  • Experience developing tools for power efficiency and optimization.
  • Experience supporting spacecraft launch-site and on-orbit operations.
  • Experience with spacecraft design reviews and lifecycle processes.
  • French language skills are an asset.
