At Bankrate, we help millions of people make smarter financial decisions — and the engineers who build our products are central to making that possible. As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll design and deliver the scalable, secure, and maintainable systems that power Bankrate's digital experiences, operating with strong autonomy and bringing deep technical judgment to complex problems. Senior Engineers here don't just write great code — they shape architecture, champion engineering standards, and connect their work directly to customer and business outcomes.

What You’ll Do:

  • Design and implement scalable, secure, and maintainable systems within a team or product area
  • Contribute to the evolution of technical architecture and engineering patterns in alignment with organizational standards
  • Build and optimize continuous delivery pipelines, improving deployment speed and reliability
  • Partner with product and design peers to translate business objectives into actionable technical work
  • Scope, estimate, and deliver medium-to-large initiatives with minimal oversight
  • Collaborate across teams to resolve technical challenges, dependencies, and integration issues
  • Mentor engineers through code reviews, pair programming, design discussions, and collaborative problem-solving
  • Contribute to the definition and improvement of team-level engineering practices and technical standards
  • Evaluate tools, techniques, and technologies that could improve team and business outcomes, and bring relevant insights back to the team

What We’re Looking For:

  • Proficiency in multiple programming languages and deep expertise in at least one technology domain
  • Strong understanding of software architecture principles and the ability to apply them effectively within team scope
  • Experience designing distributed systems, APIs, and cloud-based services
  • Proven ability to make informed tradeoffs balancing cost, scalability, security, and maintainability
  • Consistent track record of delivering end-to-end solutions independently, from design through production
  • Effective communicator who can influence decisions and translate complex technical concepts clearly for both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Deep fluency in TypeScript across API services and full-stack web applications, including strong typing practices that enforce correctness across API boundaries
  • Strong working knowledge of cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred), infrastructure-as-code, and CI/CD automation
  • Proven track record of applying observability and APM tooling, performance monitoring, and CDN/edge delivery practices to improve system reliability and speed, and contributing to code quality, design consistency, and operational reliability across the team
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate and adopt AI coding tools (such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Windsurf, or Copilot) to raise team throughput and reduce toil, while maintaining a high review and quality bar

Compensation:

Total Cash Compensation Range: $100,000 – $195,000 per year

New York City Total Cash Compensation Range: $125,000 – $243,000 per year

This role is eligible for a target bonus, which is included in the Total Cash Compensation Range. Actual compensation varies based on location, experience, and qualifications.

Additionally, the following benefits are provided by Red Ventures, subject to eligibility requirements.

  • Health Insurance Coverage (medical, dental, and vision)
  • Life Insurance
  • Short and Long-Term Disability Insurance
  • Flexible Spending Accounts
  • Holiday Pay
  • 401(k) with match
  • Employee Assistance Program
  • Paid Parental Bonding Benefit Program
  • Flexible Paid Time Off (PTO): We believe time to rest and recharge is essential. That’s why we offer a generous and flexible PTO policy. Full-time employees accrue 20 days of PTO for a full calendar year annually, with an increase to 25 days after five years of service.

Who We Are:

Bankrate is where Americans go to get the best price on life's most important financial decisions. By combining proprietary data, advanced technology, and deep market coverage, Bankrate helps consumers compare options and make confident financial choices across mortgages, credit cards, savings, and more. As a rate provider to the Federal Reserve and the benchmark relied upon by major publishers and policymakers nationwide, Bankrate's rate data is the national standard. This commitment to precision is reflected across all its products. In mortgages, proprietary auction technology puts lenders in real-time competition on price alone, consistently delivering rates in the lowest 10% in the country. For deposits, the platform features exclusively top-tier rates in the top 10% nationally, while its credit card coverage encompasses more than 90% of the market by volume. Founded by a journalist, Bankrate remains dedicated to its founding mission of transparency, honest information, and real competition — helping to make the American dream more affordable for everyone.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
