The posting
Redstone Residential is a national student and multi-family housing operator, managing more than 38,000 beds across 20 states. We are one of the largest third-party student housing management companies in the U.S. - and we're just getting started.
Our rapidly growing conventional housing portfolio reflects our ambitious, forward-thinking approach to real estate management. Headquartered in Provo, Utah, we combine industry-leading systems with a high-energy culture to deliver exceptional property performance and resident experiences.
Redstone's purpose is "to empower our people and elevate communities." We achieve our purpose by embodying our core values:
- We Are Believers
- We Communicate Authentically with Care
- We Stay The Course
- We Drive Performance
Do you like walking into a property you've never seen before and figuring out, within hours, exactly what it needs? Are you just as comfortable diagnosing a rooftop HVAC unit as you are coaching a nervous new tech through their first work order? Does "no two days look the same" sound less like a warning and more like a perk?
If you're nodding along, this might be your next move.
Why Redstone?
At Redstone, we're not just a property management company.
We're a culture company that happens to manage properties.
Our purpose: To empower our people & elevate communities.
Our vision: To create a high-performing, people-first culture that attracts, develops, and empowers team members to thrive.
Our vibe: Energetic. Fun. Creative. Growth-minded. People-first. Performance-driven.
As a company that serves student & multi-family communities, our culture naturally leans to vibrant, curious, and innovative. We believe in staying playful while driving meaningful results. We experiment. We learn. We grow. We celebrate wins (big and small). And we build experiences that make people proud to work here.
The Opportunity
We're hiring a Traveling Maintenance Supervisor to be Redstone's go-to, hands-on maintenance leader across our roughly 60 properties in Utah, Salt Lake, and Davis Counties.
You'll report to the National Director of Facilities and deploy to properties as needs arise — covering staffing gaps, turn season, performance turnarounds, and emergencies. One week you might be running a compressed student housing turn; the next, stabilizing a Class C, value-add property with a maintenance backlog. This role is built for someone who reads a property fast, builds trust with an unfamiliar team even faster, and genuinely enjoys the variety.
This role is perfect for someone who:
- Gets energized by a new property and a blank slate, not overwhelmed by it
- Can walk a site for the first time and know within days what needs to happen first
- Is equally comfortable doing the repair themselves and coaching someone else through it
- Moves easily between Class A amenity-rich communities and Class C, value-add properties with deferred maintenance
- Stays composed when something breaks at 9pm on a Friday
- Builds credibility with a new team fast, without needing weeks to settle in
- Is genuinely up for the travel — new property, new team, new priorities, on short notice
What You'll Own
As our Traveling Maintenance Supervisor, you will:
- Deploy to properties, often on short notice, to provide interim maintenance leadership during staffing gaps, turn season, or performance turnarounds
- Assess property condition, work order backlogs, preventive maintenance compliance, and life-safety systems within days of arrival, and build a prioritized action plan
- Personally perform and/or supervise skilled trades work — HVAC, electrical, plumbing, appliance repair, carpentry, and general maintenance — across buildings of every age and condition
- Lead unit turn execution for both compressed student housing timelines and rolling conventional multifamily turns
- Train, coach, and mentor on-site maintenance technicians and supervisors on Redstone's maintenance standards, safety protocols, and work order practices
- Audit and improve work order close rates, response times, and preventive maintenance compliance at every property you visit
- Adjust your approach to the property in front of you — Class A amenity-rich communities need a different playbook than Class C, value-add properties with deferred maintenance
- Coordinate with Community and Regional management to communicate property condition, risks, and resource needs
- Respond to emergency maintenance situations — life-safety issues, weather events, major system failures — across the portfolio
- Keep every property in compliance with OSHA standards and applicable state and local codes
- Coordinate and oversee third-party vendors for scopes beyond in-house capability
- Document work performed, parts and materials used, and property condition for every assignment
Who You Are
You're a problem-solver at your core: hand you an unfamiliar property, and you'll have a plan by the end of the week.
You bring:
- 5+ years of hands-on property maintenance experience, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead maintenance capacity
- Experience across multiple property classes (A, B, and C); experience in both conventional multifamily and student housing strongly preferred
- Working knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and general building systems, with the ability to diagnose and repair equipment of any age or manufacturer
- A track record of assessing unfamiliar properties fast and prioritizing effectively with limited ramp-up time
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with experience training or mentoring maintenance staff
- A valid driver's license, an acceptable driving record, and genuine willingness to travel
- The ability to work independently and adapt quickly to different property teams, cultures, and expectations on short notice
- Proficiency with work order management systems (Entrata experience a plus) and general computer/mobile applications
- A high school diploma or equivalent; relevant trade school or technical certification a plus
- English fluency
Bonus points if you have:
- EPA 608 Universal Certification
- Certified Pool Operator (CPO)
- Trade-specific licensure or certification (HVAC, electrical, or plumbing)
- Prior experience supporting student housing turn processes on compressed timelines
Classification & Schedule
- Department: Facilities Management.
- Reports to the National Director of Facilities.
- FLSA classification: Exempt
- Compensation: $75,000 - $85,000 annually
Location, Travel & Work Environment
This is a field-based role with extensive travel — often on short notice — across Redstone's Utah, Salt Lake, and Davis County portfolio. Availability for on-call and emergency response is expected, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
The work is physical and varied: climbing ladders, working at heights, and accessing roofs, crawl spaces, and mechanical rooms; working outdoors in all weather; frequent bending, kneeling, standing, and walking throughout the day. You'll need to be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs regularly, and 75+ lbs occasionally.
