ROLE OVERVIEW
Every certified vehicle runs on a foundation of requirements, and some parts of that foundation are simply harder than others - more ambiguous, more cross-cutting, more consequential if they're wrong. As a Senior Systems Engineer on our Certification team, you'll take on those problems directly, working alongside our existing systems engineers.
This is a hands-on technical role. You'll own, manage, and verify the requirements and safety analyses for the most difficult systems on Viceroy, our commercial Seaglider program, contribute ideas and effort to improving how the team works, and regularly review requirements, verification procedures, and safety artifacts that your teammates produce — offering an experienced second set of eyes. You'll manage all of it in our requirements management tool, where traceability has to hold up to regulatory scrutiny. Your influence here comes from the quality of your work and judgment.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Own complex systems problems. Take direct responsibility for Viceroy’s most ambiguous and cross-cutting systems engineering challenges, driving them from requirements and analysis through verification and resolution.
- Partner with multidisciplinary design teams. Work closely with electrical, mechanical, software, test, and other engineering teams to understand their systems, provide systems engineering guidance, and help teams converge when requirements, interfaces, or technical priorities pull in different directions.
- Lead system safety analysis. Perform Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), and Failure Modes, Effects, and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) for complex systems, and provide technical review and guidance on teammates’ analyses.
- Own requirements and traceability. Derive requirements from regulatory documents, standards, safety analyses, and system needs; maintain audit-ready traceability; and work through cases where no existing standard cleanly applies to a wing-in-ground-effect craft.
- Drive verification and certification readiness. Develop verification approaches for requirements without established means of compliance, and partner with Certification leadership to ensure systems and technical artifacts support domestic and international certification.
- Work across system boundaries. Bring systems-level judgment to interfaces, dependencies, and technical trades across disciplines, helping surface risks early and working with the right owners to resolve them.
- Raise the bar for the team. Review requirements, verification procedures, and safety artifacts; be a resource to teammates working through difficult problems; and improve the tools, templates, and practices the team uses as Viceroy moves toward certification and production.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
- Demonstrated experience with safety-critical systems in a regulated environment such as aerospace, maritime, medical, nuclear, or another highly regulated industry.
- A track record of owning complex systems engineering problems, especially those that span disciplines, involve significant ambiguity, or require developing a path where one doesn’t already exist.
- Strong requirements and test management experience, including requirements development, traceability, verification planning, system-level testing, and hands-on use of tools such as Jama, Polarion, DOORS, or equivalent platforms.
- Deep system safety experience, including developing and reviewing analyses such as Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA/FMECA).
- The technical depth to work across disciplines, with a background in areas such as aerodynamics, hydrodynamics, electrical systems, mechanical systems, or controls.
- A collaborative approach to technical leadership, with experience reviewing others’ work, helping teammates solve difficult problems, and improving systems engineering processes, tools, and practices without needing formal authority.
- Flying, sailing, or boating experience is a plus!
