Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Principal EDA/CAD Engineer to provide technical leadership for Renesas’ global engineering compute and CAD infrastructure.

The role combines hands-on engineering with architecture and operational responsibility across Linux compute environments, engineering workspaces, project provisioning, LSF integration, EDA license infrastructure, Perforce infrastructure, monitoring and automation.

The successful candidate will work closely with engineering, CAD and IT/IS teams to develop scalable, reliable and globally consistent environments supporting semiconductor development.

Compute & Engineering Infrastructure

  • Provide technical leadership for global EDA compute infrastructure.
  • Develop and support Linux-based engineering environments.
  • Work with IT/IS on compute, storage, networking and server requirements.
  • Support interactive and batch compute environments.
  • Contribute to infrastructure capacity planning and technical roadmaps.
  • Troubleshoot complex compute and engineering-environment problems.
  • Develop automation to improve reliability and reduce manual administration.

Project & Workspace Infrastructure

  • Own and evolve the engineering project and workspace architecture.
  • Develop and maintain project/workspace creation and initialization mechanisms.
  • Support project configuration infrastructure.
  • Ensure consistent environment setup globally across projects and sites.
  • Develop interfaces between project configuration, PDKs, EDA tools and engineering workflows.
  • Provide extensible mechanisms allowing project teams to customize their environments while maintaining a supported platform standard.
  • Reduce manual intervention in project setup and project lifecycle management.

EDA License Infrastructure

  • Provide technical leadership for global EDA license-server infrastructure.
  • Develop standardized approaches for license deployment and administration.
  • Develop and maintain automation for license updates, validation and auditing.

Automation & Tool Development

  • Develop robust Python, shell and other automation for CAD infrastructure.
  • Maintain engineering utilities and infrastructure scripts.
  • Develop automation for configuration generation, provisioning, monitoring and administration.
  • Integrate CAD infrastructure with Jenkins/CI and service-management workflows where appropriate.
  • Improve observability, auditability and maintainability of infrastructure services.

Monitoring, Metrics & Capacity Planning

  • Develop dashboards and metrics for engineering infrastructure.
  • Monitor compute and license utilization.
  • Identify capacity, performance and reliability risks.
  • Work with infrastructure teams on forward capacity planning.
  • Develop mechanisms to identify inefficient use of shared engineering resources.

OS & Platform Strategy

  • Contribute to supported Linux OS strategy for EDA environments.
  • Coordinate EDA-tool compatibility requirements with IT/IS.
  • Support migration between Linux platform generations.
  • Define clear engineering requirements for infrastructure standards.
  • Help separate engineering application requirements from infrastructure operational ownership.

Documentation, Training & Support

  • Maintain architecture and operational documentation for critical CAD infrastructure.
  • Document scripts, configuration, dependencies and recovery procedures.
  • Provide expert escalation for complex infrastructure problems.
  • Train other CAD engineers and IT/IS teams to reduce dependency on individual experts.
  • Establish sustainable primary/backup ownership for critical services.
  • Develop appropriate resilience and failover strategies.
  • Work with regional CAD teams and IT/IS to standardize license infrastructure globally.
  • Support license-capacity monitoring and planning.
  • Develop monitoring and reporting for license availability and utilization.

LSF & Batch Compute

  • Provide EDA expertise for LSF-based compute environments.
  • Work with IT/IS on LSF architecture, provisioning and resource sharing.
  • Develop methods for monitoring compute utilization and efficiency.
  • Support integration between project environments and batch compute.
  • Identify and automate detection of inefficient or problematic workloads.
  • Contribute to compute capacity planning.

Perforce Infrastructure

  • Provide engineering-side technical expertise for Perforce server infrastructure and operations.
  • Support Perforce architecture used by semiconductor engineering environments.
  • Work with IT/IS on server lifecycle, availability, storage, backup and operational ownership.
  • Support administration and troubleshooting of engineering Perforce environments.
  • Develop automation and monitoring around Perforce infrastructure.
  • Maintain appropriate operational documentation and procedures.

Qualifications

Required Skills & Experience

  • Significant experience in EDA/CAD infrastructure engineering within semiconductor development.
  • Strong Linux/Unix expertise.
  • Strong scripting and automation skills, preferably Python and shell.
  • Experience with LSF or comparable distributed compute environments.
  • Experience with enterprise version-control/data-management infrastructure such as Perforce Helix and IPLM
  • Experience with engineering project/workspace management.
  • Understanding of compute, storage and network requirements for EDA environments.
  • Experience with EDA licensing and FlexNet-based licensing environments.
  • Strong troubleshooting and root-cause-analysis skills.
  • Experience developing production-quality engineering automation.
  • Ability to work across global engineering, CAD and IT/IS organizations.
  • Strong technical documentation and knowledge-transfer skills.

Highly Desirable

  • Perforce server administration and architecture.
  • LSF administration/integration experience.
  • FlexNet license-server architecture.
  • Grafana or similar infrastructure monitoring.
  • Jenkins/CI automation.
  • ServiceNow integration.
  • Cadence and other major semiconductor EDA-tool experience.
  • Linux infrastructure and RHEL migration experience.
  • Experience supporting geographically distributed engineering environments.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
