Job Title:

Assistant Professor of Psychology

Department:

Psychology

Job Description:

The Psychology Department at Rhodes College invites applications for an assistant professor position beginning Fall of 2027. This position contributes to the interdisciplinary Neuroscience program, with teaching commitments split between Psychology and Neuroscience. Area of specialization within the field of neuroscience is open, although preference will be given to candidates with training in cognitive, clinical, or developmental neuroscience. Teaching responsibilities will be split between psychology and neuroscience and will include five courses/labs per year (labs count as a full teaching involvement) including an upper-level neuroscience course and lab in the applicant’s area of expertise and introductory courses in both psychology and neuroscience. The successful candidate must demonstrate a firm commitment to teaching and research at a liberal arts college. Rhodes College believes that diversity and inclusion are critical to our success as an institution, and we seek to recruit, develop, and retain the most talented people from a diverse candidate pool. Rhodes faculty have access to a variety of equipment, including a wireless EEG system, an eye tracker, and an NSF-funded state-of-the-art motion capture system. Research will be supported by start-up funds and lab space, and possibilities for additional research support include summer research funds and travel funds. In addition, opportunities for collaborative research are available through our partnerships with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, University of Memphis, University of Tennessee Medical School, and Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital. Candidates must have completed all requirements for a Ph.D. in an appropriate subdiscipline of psychology or neuroscience by July 2027.

Rhodes is a nationally ranked residential college committed to the liberal arts and sciences. Our highest priorities are intellectual engagement, community excellence, service to others, and honor among ourselves. Our students live and learn on one of the country’s most beautiful campuses, located in the heart of Memphis, an economic, medical, and culturally diverse center, making Rhodes one of a handful of prominent liberal arts colleges in a major metropolitan area.

Rhodes College prides itself on providing a welcoming environment for employees of all backgrounds, viewpoints, and life experiences. We are an equal opportunity employer that does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, national origin, religion, age, disability, genetic information, or other protected characteristics.

A complete application will include 1) a cover letter that addresses the strengths the candidate will bring as a teacher and scholar to a liberal arts college environment; 2) a curriculum vitae; 3) a separate statement that addresses how the candidate will foster an inclusive learning environment where students from a wide variety of perspectives, beliefs, and backgrounds learn how to engage in civil and respectful dialogue. Also, you must include the following under Additional Documents: 4) a statement of teaching philosophy, and 5) a research plan.

Review of completed applications will begin October 1st and will continue until the position is filled. Letters of recommendation will only be solicited for short-listed applicants, at which time you will be prompted for the names and contact information for three (3) references. Background checks are required before candidates can be brought to campus for interviews.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
