The posting

Location: Waterloo,Ontario,Canada

This is an opportunity in the exciting and fast-growing transportation technology industry. Public transit is being transformed from a system of static, scheduled fixed-routes, to a dynamic on-demand network, and you’ll be one of the pioneers shaping this transformation.

As a Software Developer specializing in Quality Engineering, you will be embedded within an engineering squad. You will design, build, and champion the quality capabilities that empower our teams to ship with confidence at scale.

You will write and review production-quality code, contribute to technical design discussions, and raise quality and reliability risks before they become problems. You will work across engineering teams, building automation frameworks, performance and integration testing capabilities, and tooling that the whole organization depends on. Initially starting in our Salesforce development team, you will work across different engineering teams, building broad technical and domain knowledge across the platform.

You will report to the Software Quality Manager. Engineering squads at RideCo own the quality of what they build. Your job is to make that ownership easier, more reliable, and better instrumented.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Champion quality across components and interfaces; ensuring correctness, accessibility, usability, security, and scalability are built in
  • Design and build test automation frameworks and quality tooling used across the engineering organization
  • Develop automated functional, integration, performance, and stress tests, including large-scale simulations based on real-world and generated data
  • Contribute to technical designs and reviews to identify quality and reliability risks early
  • Participate in code reviews, assessing changes for testability, correctness, and quality risk
  • Partner with engineers, product owners, project stakeholders, and other RideCo staff to define acceptance criteria, identify edge cases, and assess risks
  • Investigate production issues, identify root causes, and translate findings into automation and improved test coverage
  • Contribute to test strategy, test reporting, and other documentation
  • Other duties/projects as assigned

Your tech stack & growth opportunities:

You won't be expected to know all of these on day one. The right candidate will have strong fundamentals and a track record of picking up new technologies quickly.

  • Languages: Apex, Lightning Web Components, Python, Rust, JavaScript / Angular / Vue, Bash
  • Web & backend: Salesforce, Django, Flask
  • Mobile: Ionic / Angular hybrid apps for Android and iOS, Kotlin
  • Infrastructure: AWS, PostgreSQL, Redis, RabbitMQ / Celery, Docker
  • Testing & automation: Playwright, Cypress, Appium, pytest, custom internal frameworks
  • Mapping & routing: OpenStreetMap, travel time and route estimation, traffic modeling
  • Observability: Grafana, performance dashboards, data analytics
  • Process: Agile, continuous integration, zero-downtime delivery

Qualifications and Experience:

  • 3 or more years of software development experience
  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Strong fundamentals in object-oriented programming
  • Experience in process automation and automated testing, including functional, integration, stress, and performance
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills with audiences of a variety of technical levels
  • Curious and highly adaptable, motivated by new challenges and evolving work
  • Prior experience in Salesforce development or the public transportation domain are assets

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Base salary: $80K - $100K
  • Work-Life Balance & Additional Perks: Flex-time work schedules, vacation time, bi-weekly catered lunches, social events, casual dress code
  • Benefits Plan: Medical, dental, prescription, life/health spending accounts and more
  • Work Environment: Located in KW's most desirable work space in the heart of Uptown Waterloo
  • Commuter Program: Complimentary rides to and from the office in Waterloo Region

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
