About Rivian Rivian is on a mission to keep the world adventurous forever. This goes for the emissions-free Electric Adventure Vehicles we build, and the curious, courageous souls we seek to attract. As a company, we constantly challenge what’s possible, never simply accepting what has always been done. We reframe old problems, seek new solutions and operate comfortably in areas that are unknown. Our backgrounds are diverse, but our team shares a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect it for future generations. Role Summary As a Sr. Battery Equipment Calibration and Maintenance Technician within Rivian’s Battery Test and Validation organization, you will play a vital role in maintaining the accuracy, uptime, and operational readiness of our laboratory equipment. Reporting under the Lab Manager within the core Technicians group, you will focus on executing routine and scheduled preventative maintenance (PM) workflows and equipment calibration routines across battery test systems. In this role, you will apply substantial job knowledge to complete a wide range of tasks with moderate complexity, receiving minimal instruction for daily work. You will ensure that battery cyclers, environmental chambers, chillers, sensor arrays, and data acquisition systems remain fully compliant with operational and calibration standards. Additionally, you will help other technicians on standard operating procedures (SOPs), assist in identifying process improvements for equipment turnaround times, and maintain an exceptionally safe, 5S-compliant lab environment. Responsibilities Equipment Calibration Tracking: Track calibration schedules on battery testing equipment, including temperature sensors, pressure transducers, voltage/current channels, digital multimeters, isolation meters, and torque tools. Monitor calibration schedules to maintain compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 standards. Preventative Maintenance (PM) Execution: Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on battery test cyclers, environmental chambers, liquid chillers, tensile/materials test equipment, and power supplies following established work requests and manufacturer/internal SOPs. Issue Troubleshooting & Escalation: Diagnose minor mechanical or electrical equipment anomalies, perform basic repairs or sensor replacements, and report complex equipment failures or out-of-spec calibration findings to domain specialists and lab leadership. Documentation & Work Request Logging: Maintain meticulous digital records of PM completions, calibration certificates, tool maintenance logs, and asset statuses within Jira / lab management systems. Departmental Training & Mentorship: Train technicians on departmental calibration workflows, PM checklists, tool handling, and lab standard operating procedures. Process Feedback & Continuous Improvement: Review work requests and preventative maintenance workflows to identify gaps, recommending process improvements to optimize equipment uptime and workflow efficiency. Lab Safety & 5S Culture: Strictly enforce Environmental Health & Safety (EHS protocols, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), high-voltage safety practices, and 5S principle across calibration and maintenance workbenches. Qualifications Associate of Science (A.S.) degree or technical trade school certification preferred; or a minimum of 2 to 4 years of related hands-on experience in equipment maintenance, calibration, or laboratory operations. Substantial understanding of calibration techniques and preventative maintenance workflows. Hands-on experience with basic electrical and mechanical diagnostic tools (e.g., multimeters, wire strippers, torque wrenches, pressure gauges, calipers). Ability to read, interpret, and follow electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, calibration procedures, and equipment manuals. Strong verbal and written communication skills to articulate technical issues, log maintenance data accurately, and train peers on routine lab tasks. Ability to safely perform physical work, including lifting and material handling Preferred Qualifications Direct experience maintaining or calibrating battery testing hardware (e.g., cell/pack cyclers, thermal chambers, DAQ instruments, chillers, power supplies). Familiarity with ISO/IEC 17025 calibration standards, metrology principles, or NIST-traceable calibration workflows. Electrical safety certification or advanced safety training (e.g., NFPA 70E, OSHA 10/30, High Voltage LOTO). Experience utilizing LIMS, Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), or Jira work-request ticketing systems. Forklift / material handling equipment certification.
