The posting

Director of Human Resources

The Ranch at Rock Creek

Department: Human Resources

Reports To: General Manager

FLSA Status: Exempt — Executive/Administrative exemption

Compensation: Competitive salary commensurate with experience, plus full benefits and on-site housing

BACKGROUND

The Ranch at Rock Creek is the world’s first Forbes Five Star luxury guest ranch — a remote, four-season destination set against southwestern Montana's Sapphire Mountains, and a member of Leading Hotels of the World. Working here means leading people in a genuinely unique operating environment: a close-knit, seasonal workforce, on-site housing, and a level of service excellence that few properties in the world are held to.

The Director of Human Resources leads the full HR function at The Ranch — employment, compensation and benefits, training, employee and labor relations, organizational development, and payroll oversight — while serving as a steward of workplace culture and a trusted resource for employees at every level. This role partners closely with the General Manager to maximize employee engagement and service excellence, and serves as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, leading a team of three HR professionals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead the Human Resources Department, including annual objectives, departmental strategy, and management of a team of three. Oversee staff housing both on-site and off-site in a consistent and fair manner in line with our culture ensuring a positive experience for our employees. Champion and help shape a workplace culture grounded in trust, respect, and professionalism — modeling those standards personally and holding others accountable to them. Establish, maintain, and ensure consistent adherence to all personnel policies and procedures across the property. Direct recruitment and hiring strategy for all exempt and non-exempt roles, including seasonal and remote-destination recruiting; personally lead recruitment for executive-level positions. Own compensation and benefits administration — conduct market wage/salary/benefit surveys, recommend enhancements, and administer employment, wage, 401(k), and bonus programs. Design and oversee training and development programs, including required anti-harassment and anti-discrimination training, management/supervisory development, and brand-standard training goals. Direct performance management across all departments, including administration of performance appraisals and the disciplinary process. Maintain accurate, compliant HR records and systems, and monitor the property's compliance with applicable federal, state, and local employment law. Oversee and investigate employee relations and labor matters, ensuring a fair, consistent, and legally sound process. Participate in the budget process for staffing, productivity, and benefits/labor costs; monitor turnover and recommend improvements. Oversee payroll processes to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and risk mitigation. Administer associate benefit programs, including enrollment and vendor coordination. Serve as an active member of the Senior Leadership Team, partnering with property leadership on organizational goals. Maintain independence and confidentiality in all employee relations matters, avoiding any actual or perceived conflict of interest in the handling of complaints or investigations. Disclose promptly any personal, financial, or relational conflict of interest that could compromise objectivity in an HR matter, andrecuse as appropriate. Ensure all employees have a clear, confidential path to raise workplace concerns, and that all complaints are handled without retaliation, consistent with company policy and applicable law.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

5+ years of experience in a senior Human Resources role required.

Bachelor's degree or above in Human Resources or related field; PHR/SPHR or SHRM certification strongly preferred.

Prior HR management experience in the hospitality industry strongly preferred.

Strong knowledge of recruitment strategy within a seasonal, remote-destination environment preferred.

Experience within Forbes Five Star and/or Leading Hotels of the World standards and culture preferred.

Ability to interact effectively and build trust with staff at all levels.

Experience with Workers' Compensation issues and development of modified work programs.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
