If you're excited by data, analytics, and solving complex business challenges, this internship offers an opportunity to see how data drives decision-making at one of the region's leading community banks. At Rockland Trust, you'll gain hands-on experience working with a credit portfolio exceeding $18 billion, collaborate with experienced risk professionals, and help deliver insights that support the Bank's risk management strategy.

This isn't a "shadow and observe" internship. You'll work with real data, contribute to meaningful projects, and gain exposure to the tools and techniques used by professionals in banking, finance, and analytics. You'll also collaborate with fellow interns on a summer-long project, presenting your ideas and findings to leaders across the organization.

About the Opportunity

Rockland Trust's Portfolio Risk team oversees an $18+ billion credit portfolio, consisting of commercial, consumer, residential mortgage, and home equity lending. As a Portfolio Risk Analyst Intern, you'll help analyze portfolio trends, support risk reporting initiatives, and contribute to projects that help the Bank better understand and manage risk.

This role offers a unique opportunity to combine finance, analytics, and technology while working alongside professionals who influence strategic business decisions.

What You'll Do

  • Analyze portfolio performance and risk characteristics across commercial, residential, and consumer lending portfolios.
  • Support loan loss modeling and portfolio stress-testing initiatives.
  • Validate and review data to ensure accuracy, consistency, and integrity.
  • Create and enhance dashboards and visualizations using tools such as Tableau, Power BI, and Alteryx.
  • Develop and execute data queries to support reporting and analysis efforts.
  • Assist in the preparation of risk reports, presentations, and executive-level reporting materials.
  • Research trends in portfolio performance, asset quality, and credit risk.
  • Partner with team members on projects that improve data insights and risk management processes.

We're seeking curious, analytical students who enjoy working with data and using it to solve business problems.

Qualifications:

  • Rising junior or senior undergraduate student, or graduate student pursuing an MBA, M.S. in Finance, Statistics, Data Analytics, or a related field.
  • Pursuing a quantitatively focused major such as Finance, Economics, Statistics, Data Analytics, Mathematics, or a related discipline.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or Alteryx.
  • Basic knowledge of SQL and data querying concepts.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy.

Bonus Points If You Have

  • Previous coursework or internship experience in financial analysis, risk management, business intelligence, or data analytics.
  • Exposure to banking, lending, financial services, or credit risk concepts.
  • Experience working with large datasets and turning data into actionable insights.
  • Interest in pursuing a career in risk management, finance, analytics, or banking.
